Loyd Grossman Food is a brand of cooking sauces established in 1995 manufactured by Premier Foods in association with TV personality and food critic Loyd Grossman. Premier Foods, which also manufactures Sharwood's, was the leading UK cooking sauces company in terms of value share. The company produces Italian, Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chilli Cooking Sauces and introduced a For One range in 2010, which is sold in individual pouches containing enough sauce for one helping. In 2011 Premier Foods issued a product recall on Loyd Grossman korma after cases of botulism in Scotland. Premier Foods plc is a British food manufacturer headquartered in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The group owns many well-known brands, including Mr Kipling, Ambrosia, Bird's Custard, Angel Delight, Homepride cooking sauces, Lyons, Sharwood's, Loyd Grossman sauces, Oxo, Bisto, Batchelors and Plantastic. Loyd Daniel Gilman Grossman (born 16 September 1950) is an American-British author, broadcaster and cultural campaigner who has mainly worked in the United Kingdom. He is well known for presenting the BBC programme ''MasterChef'' from 1990 to 2000 and for being the co-presenter, with David Frost, of the BBC and ITV panel show ''Through the Keyhole'' from 1987 until 2003, visiting homes of many UK and US celebrities. Early life and education Grossman was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on 16 September 1950 and raised in Marblehead, Massachusetts, the son of David K. Sharwood's is a British food company, which specialises in Asian food, established in 1889 and acquired by RHM in 1963, which was then merged into Premier Foods in March 2007. Company products The company produces Indian, Chinese and South East Asian food products and ingredients. It produces many cooking sauces, which usually come in a recognisable square shape jar, and also curry pastes and powders, pappadoms, naan breads, noodles, prawn crackers as well as ready meals. It holds the largest market share in Britain in this range. As of 2007 it claims to have 28% of the Asian food market in Britain, and that 46% of sales are from sauces. The sauces are made at the Worksop Factory in north Nottinghamshire. A product recall is a request from a manufacturer to return a product after the discovery of safety issues or product defects that might endanger the consumer or put the maker/seller at risk of legal action. The recall is an effort to limit ruination of the corporate image and limit liability for corporate negligence, which can cause significant legal costs. Botulism
Botulism is a rare and potentially fatal illness caused by a toxin produced by the bacterium ''Clostridium botulinum''. The disease begins with weakness, blurred vision, feeling tired, and trouble speaking. This may then be followed by weakness of the arms, chest muscles, and legs. Vomiting, swelling of the abdomen, and diarrhea may also occur. The disease does not usually affect consciousness or cause a fever. Botulism can be spread in several ways. Health Protection Scotland (HPS) is the organisation that co-ordinates health protection in Scotland. It is part of Public Health Scotland. HPS took over the functions of the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health (SCIEH) in November 2004. Other functions from National Services Scotland were also added.
