Lowton High School
Lowton Church of England High School is a coeducational secondary school located in Lowton in the English county of Greater Manchester. It is a foundation school administered by Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council. The school became affiliated with the Church of England in 2012 under the guidance of the Diocese of Liverpool. The school educates pupils mainly from Lowton, Golborne, Leigh and Atherton. Lowton Church of England High School offers GCSEs and some entry level courses as programmes of study for pupils. The school also offers evening adult education and sports facilities to the local community. Foundation School
In England and Wales, a foundation school is a state-funded school in which the governing body has greater freedom in the running of the school than in community schools. Foundation schools were set up under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to replace grant-maintained schools, which were funded directly by central government. James Grundy (politician)
James Nelson Grundy (born 8 December 1978) is a British Conservative Party politician who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Leigh since 2019. Early life Grundy was born in Warrington, and raised on the family farm in Lowton, where he still resides. Grundy was also educated locally, having attended both Lowton St Mary's Primary School and Lowton High School. Political career Grundy was elected to represent the Lowton East ward on Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council as a councillor in the 2008 local elections. David Thomas Morris (born 3 January 1966) is a British Conservative Party politician, former musician and businessman serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Morecambe and Lunesdale since 2010. Early life Morris was born on 3 January 1966 in Leigh, Lancashire. Jon Clarke (born 4 April 1979) is an English former professional rugby league player who played as a . Heather Frederiksen MBE (born 30 December 1985) is a retired British Paralympic swimmer. She is former world record holder in the women's S8 100 m backstroke, 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, 200 m freestyle and 400 m freestyle events. , she still holds European records in the S8 200 m and 400 m freestyle. Katie Rebecca White (born 18 January 1983) is an English musician and member of the pop duo The Ting Tings. After some success with a girl group punk trio TKO, which supported Steps and Atomic Kitten, her father David White brought in Jules De Martino to write songs for TKO. Lemn Sissay FRSL (born 21 May 1967) is a British author and broadcaster. Sissay was the official poet of the 2012 London Olympics, has been chancellor of the University of Manchester since 2015, and joined the Foundling Museum's board of trustees two years later, having previously been appointed one of the museum's fellows.
