Lowry Tapes
The Lowry Tapes refers to a 2013 scandal in Ireland involving the Tipperary North TD Michael Lowry, formerly a Fine Gael government minister. They feature a telephone conversation between Lowry and the land agent Kevin Phelan. The conversation featured foul language and reference to an undeclared payment of €250,000. It is believed to date from 30 September 2004 and raised uncertainty over whether Lowry had misled the Moriarty Tribunal which had previously investigated him. Tipperary North (Dáil Constituency)
Tipperary North was a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas, from 1948 to 2016. The constituency elected 3 deputies ( Teachtaí Dála, commonly known as TDs). The method of election was proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV). History and boundaries It was created for the 1948 general election when the former Tipperary constituency was divided into Tipperary North and Tipperary South. The constituency underwent a significant revision to its boundaries at the 2007 general election. ''Morning Ireland'' is the breakfast news programme broadcast by RTÉ Radio 1 in Ireland and is noted as that country's most listened to radio programme. It is broadcast each weekday morning between 07.00 and 09.00 and alternate items are normally presented by two presenters from the current rota, which included Audrey Carville, Rachael English, Gavin Jennings and Fran McNulty as of Cathal Mac Coille's retirement in 2017. Political corruption is the use of powers by government officials or their network contacts for illegitimate private gain. Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index scores Ireland at 74 on a scale from 0 ("highly corrupt") to 100 ("highly clean"). When ranked by score, Ireland ranked 13th among the 180 countries in the Index, where the country ranked first is perceived to have the most honest public sector. For comparison, the best score was 88 (ranked 1), and the worst score was 11 (ranked 180). During the years before the Celtic Tiger (1995–2007), political corruption was at its worst with many politicians suspected of corruption, while financial corruption was at its peak during the Celtic Tiger years. The Taoiseach is the head of government, or prime minister, of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The office is appointed by the president of Ireland upon the nomination of Dáil Éireann (the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's national legislature) and the office-holder must retain the support of a majority in the Dáil to remain in office. Luke 'Ming' Flanagan (born 22 January 1972) is an Irish politician who has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Ireland for the Midlands–North-West constituency since 2014. Marian Finucane
Marian Finucane ( ; 21 May 1950 – 2 January 2020) was an Irish broadcaster with Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). She began working with the national broadcaster in 1974, starting as a continuity announcer. She was the first presenter of ''Liveline'' and presented ''The Marian Finucane Show'' at weekend lunchtimes on RTÉ Radio 1 until her death.
