Lowell K. Bridwell
Lowell K. Bridwell (14 June 1924 – 21 November 1986) was an American journalist. He was a correspondent for the Associated Press and the Ohio State Journal from 1946 to 1950. He was director of the Federal Highway Administration from 1967 to 1969. Biography He was born on June 14, 1924 in Westerville, Ohio. His father worked for the Anti-Saloon League. After World War II, he briefly attended Ohio State University in the late 1940s and early 1950s, married Margaret Bridwell, a physician. He was a Scripps-Howard reporter in Columbus, Ohio then Cincinnati, Ohio. During his time as a reporter in the 1950s he wrote many stories about first local and then national interest, and drew the interest of J. Edgar Hoover during the second red scare. His brother Charles Bridwell also worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at the time in the Columbus field office and refused to spy on his brother for Hoover, thus ending his career in the FBI. Westerville is a city in Franklin and Delaware counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. A northeastern suburb of Columbus, the population was 39,190 at the 2020 census. Westerville is the home of Otterbein University. Walter Williams (centenarian)
Walter Washington Williams (November 14, 1842 or 1854 – December 19, 1959) claimed to have been a forager for Hood's Brigade, which if true made him the Last surviving United States war veterans, last surviving veteran of the American Civil War. Serious doubt has been claimed about the veracity of these claims. Last surviving veteran claims Born in Itawamba County, Mississippi, Williams claimed to have served under General John Bell Hood, as a foragemaster in Hood's Brigade and Quantrill's guerrillas. Westway (New York)
The Joe DiMaggio Highway, commonly called the West Side Highway and formerly the Miller Highway, is a mostly surface section of New York State Route 9A (NY 9A), running from 72nd Street (Manhattan), West 72nd Street along the Hudson River to the southern tip of Manhattan in New York City. It replaced the West Side Elevated Highway, built between 1929 and 1951, which was shut down in 1973 due to neglect and lack of maintenance, and was dismantled by 1989. North of 72nd Street the roadway continues north as the Henry Hudson Parkway. The current highway was complete by 2001, but required reconstruction after the September 11 attacks that year, when the collapse of the World Trade Center caused debris to fall onto the surrounding areas, damaging the highway.
