Low Stars
Low Stars is a musical project of Dave Gibbs and Chris Seefried, that captures the sound of classic bands like Crosby, Stills, and Nash and The Eagles. History Low Stars began when Dave Gibbs was holding his annual benefit for the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund. Chris Seefried was on the bill, as well as Jude, who was added at the last minute. At the time, Gibbs was already playing on another project with Jeff Russo. Afterwards, the group ended up playing and singing on Russo's front porch in Hollywood. When a girl inside heard the music they were playing she commented that she missed that kind of music and the idea for the project was born. Starbucks Entertainment's attention was caught by the project and they offered to add them to their Hear Music Debut series, which is designed to introduce Starbucks customers to upcoming artists. George Drakoulias
George Drakoulias (born 1965) is a Greek-American music producer and a former A&R executive at the American Recordings label. He is often considered a protégé of Rick Rubin. Drakoulias grew up in Syosset, New York, and attended Syosset High School, where he started his musical career with a band called Lifeline. He went to college at New York University (NYU), where he majored in music and business. There he befriended Rick Rubin, whom he met after he started dating an ex-girlfriend of Rubin's. He became one of the first hires for Rubin's Def Jam label. As an A&R man, he discovered L.L. Cool J and the Beastie Boys. After Rubin left Def Jam to move to Los Angeles and form the Def American label, which was later retitled American Recordings, Drakoulias moved with him and became a producer. ''Low Stars'' is the debut album from Los Angeles band Low Stars. Signed by Hear Music, and released through Starbucks, the album features single "Calling All Friends", which was the theme song for ABC television series ''What About Brian''. "Need a Friend" and "LA Forever" were featured in TV and film respectively. "Just Around the Corner" was the featured video from the album. The cover photograph by Henry Diltz was taken in Agora Hills at the same location where he shot the cover of the Eagles' ''Desperado''. Fitz And The Tantrums
Fitz and the Tantrums are an American indie pop and neo soul band from Los Angeles, California, that formed in 2008. The band consists of Michael Fitzpatrick (lead vocals), Noelle Scaggs (co-lead vocals and percussion), James King (saxophone, flute, keyboard, percussion and guitar), Joseph Karnes (bass guitar), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboards) and John Wicks (drums and percussion). ''Rock of Ages'' is a jukebox musical built around classic rock songs from the 1980s, especially from the famous glam metal bands of that decade. The musical features songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Steve Perry, Poison and Europe, among other well-known rock bands. It was written by Chris D'Arienzo, directed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Kelly Devine with music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Ethan Popp. During the show, the performers frequently break the "fourth wall", directly addressing the audience and seemingly forgetting (or perhaps reminding the audience) that they are actors in a musical. Charlie Gillingham
Charles Thomas Gillingham (born January 26, 1960) is a keyboardist and multi-instrumentalist best known for his performance on the Hammond B-3 organ, accordion, piano, and keyboards for the band Counting Crows. He has also played the bass guitar in live shows during certain songs such as " Holiday in Spain". Gillingham attended Richard Henry Dana Junior High in San Pedro, California, and also attended Miraleste High School in Rancho Palos Verdes his sophomore, junior and senior year. He was a member of Slip Stream, Clark, Kent, and the Reporters, Midnight Radio, Zip Code Revue, and played keyboards on Train's 1998 debut album. In 2004, Gillingham was nominated for an Oscar as co-composer of the song " Accidentally in Love".
