Love And Rockets (band)
Love and Rockets were an English rock band formed in 1985 by former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash (vocals, guitar and saxophone), David J (bass guitar and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums and synthesisers) after that group split in 1983. Ash and Haskins had recorded and performed in another band, Tones on Tail, between 1982 and 1984. Love and Rockets' fusion of underground rock music with elements of pop music provided an early catalyst for alternative rock. They released seven studio albums before breaking up in 1999 and reformed briefly in 2007 for a few live shows, before splitting again in 2009. They are perhaps best known for their 1989 single " So Alive", which reached No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Northampton
Northampton () is a market town and civil parish in the East Midlands of England, on the River Nene, north-west of London and south-east of Birmingham. Album-oriented rock (AOR, originally called album-oriented radio) is an FM radio format created in the United States in the 1970s that focuses on the full repertoire of rock albums and is currently associated with classic rock. Album-oriented radio was originally established by U.S. radio stations dedicated to playing album tracks by rock artists from the hard rock to progressive rock genres. In the mid-1970s, AOR was characterized by a layered, mellifluous sound and sophisticated production with considerable dependence on melodic hooks. Using research and formal programming to create an album rock format with greater commercial appeal, the AOR format achieved tremendous popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s. ''Love and Rockets'' is the fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Love and Rockets; released in 1989 by Beggars Banquet Records on cassette, vinyl, and compact disc. Background ''Love and Rockets'' dismissed '' Earth, Sun, Moon'''s folk sound in favour of a stronger rock sound. Hints of the band's former psychedelic and gothic rock sound remain. Chief songwriters Daniel Ash and David J had begun concentrating strictly on their own material (rather than writing together) on '' Earth, Sun, Moon''. ''Earth, Sun, Moon'' is the third studio album by English alternative rock band Love and Rockets, released in 1987 on Beggars Banquet. The album was remastered, but not expanded (unlike their previous albums), in 2001. Most of the tracks that would have appeared on an expanded edition were included on disc 5 of their 2013 CD box set ''5 Albums''. Background While the album continued in a psychedelic vein, the band also experimented with a folkier sound. Vestiges of a gothic rock sound remained, but the band continued to sound less like their previous group, Bauhaus. ''Earth, Sun, Moon'' featured Love and Rockets' first hit, "No New Tale to Tell". ''Express'' is the second studio album by English alternative rock band Love and Rockets. It was released on 15 September 1986 on Beggars Banquet Records. An even greater departure from the band members' previous work as Bauhaus, the album's fusion of underground rock with pop stylings can be seen as an early example of alternative rock music, a genre that reached mainstream popularity in the early 1990s. "Kundalini Express" was featured in the 1986 Italian horror film ''Demons 2'' and appeared on an episode of the T.V. show ''Miami Vice''. Neo-psychedelia
Neo-psychedelia is a diverse genre of psychedelic music that draws inspiration from the sounds of 1960s psychedelia, either updating or copying the approaches from that era. Originating in the 1970s, it has occasionally seen mainstream pop success but is typically explored within alternative rock scenes. It initially developed as an outgrowth of the British post-punk scene, where it was also known as acid punk. After post-punk, neo-psychedelia flourished into a more widespread and international movement of artists who applied the spirit of psychedelic rock to new sounds and techniques. ''Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven'' is the debut studio album by English rock band Love and Rockets. It was released on 11 October 1985, through record label Beggars Banquet. ''Seventh Dream'' was preceded by the non-album single " Ball of Confusion" on 17 May 1985, and the album's first proper single "If There's a Heaven Above" on 13 September 1985. The album was remastered in October 1999 and reissued in the year 2000 with six bonus tracks (four B-sides and two alternate mixes) and new album cover artwork. "Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today)" is a 1970 hit single for The Temptations. It was released on the Gordy (Motown) label, and written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. The song was used to anchor The Temptations' 1970 '' Greatest Hits II'' LP. It reached #3 on the US pop charts and #2 on the US R&B charts. ''Billboard'' ranked the record as the #24 song of 1970. It reached #7 in the UK Singles Chart. Although a nearly eleven minute long backing track was recorded by The Funk Brothers, only slightly more than four minutes was used for the Temptations' version of the song. ''Love and Rockets X'' is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Gilbert Hernandez. Its serialization ran in the comic book '' Love and Rockets'' Vol. 1 #31–39 from 1989 to 1992, and the first collected edition appeared in 1993. The story crosses the paths of a large cast of characters from various social and ethnic groups in Los Angeles. Central is a garage rock band that calls itself Love and Rockets. The story shifts quickly from scene to scene and character to character, none of whom take the role of a central protagonist. Hernandez uses none of the magic realist elements in this work that are prominent in the ''Palomar'' stories for which he is best known.
