Love Serenade
''Love Serenade'' is a 1996 Australian comedy film written and directed by Shirley Barrett. It has the tagline: "Two sisters will do anything to hook the right man". There are not many characters in ''Love Serenade'', which is set in a fictitious, almost-deserted town called Sunray, located on the Murray River. It is a thinly disguised version of Robinvale, Victoria, which was the location of the film. The film is about a pair of sisters, Dimity (Miranda Otto) and Vicki-Ann ( Rebecca Frith), who share a house. Dimity, the shy and insecure sibling, is a waitress at a local Chinese restaurant. Vicki-Ann, the brash one, is a hair stylist. Both are looking for love, although the prospects in Sunray seem bleak, at best. That is, until Ken Sherry (George Shetsov), a thrice divorced Brisbane DJ personality, moves into the house next door. Shirley Barrett
Shirley Barrett (1961 – 3 August 2022) was an Australian film director, screenwriter, and novelist. Her first film '' Love Serenade'' won the Caméra d'Or at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. She wrote and directed two other feature films '' Walk the Talk'' (2000) and ''South Solitary'' (2010). Barrett's script for ''South Solitary'' was awarded multiple prizes, including the Queensland Premier's Prize and the West Australian Premier's Prize. Her first novel ''Rush Oh!'' (2016) was shortlisted for the 2016 Indie Awards for Debut Fiction and the 2016 Nita May Dobbie Award, and long-listed for the 2016 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction. Her second novel ''The Bus on Thursday'' was released in 2018. Early life and education Barrett was born in Melbourne in 1961. Jan Chapman (born 28 March 1950) is an Australian film producer. Films produced by Chapman include ''The Last Days of Chez Nous'' (1992), ''The Piano'' (1993), '' Love Serenade'' (1996), ''Holy Smoke!'' (1999), and ''Lantana'' (2001). While studying English and Fine Arts at Sydney University in the late 1960s Chapman began working on small, independent films, as part of the nascent Sydney Filmmakers Co-op, which included her first husband, film director Phillip Noyce.
