Love Letters (1924 Film)
''Love letters'' is a 1924 American silent drama film directed by David Selman (credited as David Soloman) and written by Doty Hobart, which stars Shirley Mason, Gordon Edwards, and Alma Francis. John Miljan made his film debut in a supporting role. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Julia Crossland is living very happily with her husband and sister. Evelyn Jefferson is equally happy with the thoughts of her upcoming marriage to Jimmy Stanton, who has just accepted a position as secretary to Thomas Chadwick. He rents a house for his employer next to that of the Crossland's. When the sisters meet Thomas, they realize that he is the man they both love and secretly wrote passionate love letters to. Evelyn attempts to get the letters, but is unsuccessful. Chadwick is killed. John Miljan
John Miljan (November 9, 1892 – January 24, 1960) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1924 and 1958. Biography Born in 1892, Miljan was the tall, smooth-talking villain in Hollywood films for almost four decades, beginning in 1923. Miljan made his first sound film in 1927 in the promotional trailer for ''The Jazz Singer'', inviting audiences to see the upcoming landmark film. In later years he played imposing, authoritative parts such as high-ranking executives and military officers. He is best remembered as General Custer in Cecil B. DeMille's film ''The Plainsman''. DeMille also cast him in two notable supporting roles in two of his biblical epics: the Tribe of Dan, Danite elder Lesh Lakish in ''Samson and Delilah (1949 film), Samson and Delilah'' (1949), and the blind Israelite grandfather in The Exodus in ''The Ten Commandments (1956 film), The Ten Commandments'' (1956). William Irving (actor)
William Irving (17 May 1893 – 25 December 1943) was a German-born American film actor. Biography The burly character actor appeared in more than 220 films between 1916 and 1941, often as a "comic heavy" in the comedies of Our Gang or The Three Stooges. Irving also appeared as a cowardly German army cook in ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' (1930). He played mostly supporting roles in the silent era, but after the introduction of sound films his appearances got noticeably smaller and he was often uncredited. On Christmas Day, 1943, Irving was crossing the street at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, California, when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.
