Love Business
''Love Business'' is a 1931 ''Our Gang'' short comedy film directed by Robert F. McGowan. It was the 104th (16th talking episode) ''Our Gang'' short that was released. Plot Jackie is hopelessly in love with Miss Crabtree. At the same time, his sister Mary Ann tells their mother that Jackie is in love with Miss Crabtree. Jackie runs off to school without eating breakfast. Meanwhile, Miss Crabtree becomes a boarder in Jackie's home and moves in later that day. Chubby also is in love with Miss Crabtree and practices kissing her on an oversized cardboard statue of Greta Garbo. Then at school, Wheezer tells Jackie, Mary Ann, Chubby, Farina, Donald, and Bonedust that Miss Crabtree was moving into their house. Jackie has mixed emotions about this. Baldwin Cooke
Baldwin Gardiner Cooke (March 10, 1888 – December 31, 1953), also known as Baldy Cooke, was a comedic American actor. Born in New York, Cooke and his wife, Alice, toured in vaudeville with Stan Laurel, remaining close friends over the years. He appeared in some thirty Laurel and Hardy comedies. Cooke also appeared in the Our Gang series, and supported Charley Chase in 1931's ''La Señorita de Chicago''. His grave is located at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery where Laurel's co-star, Oliver Hardy is interred. May Wallace (August 23, 1877 – December 11, 1938) was an American film actress. Biography Wallace was born in 1877 in Russiaville, Indiana. As a film actress, she often played supporting roles for producer Hal Roach in his Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang comedies, mostly in maternal roles. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1914 and 1939. Wallace was married to Thomas W. Maddox until her death, they had one daughter and one son. She died in Los Angeles, California, of heart disease, aged 61. June Marlowe (born Gisela Valaria Goetten, November 6, 1903 – March 10, 1984) was an American film actress who began her career during the silent film era. She was best known for her performance of "Miss Crabtree" in the ''Our Gang'' shorts. Career Marlowe was born to German parents in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was a prolific actress in silent films during the 1920s, appearing in films opposite John Barrymore and Rin Tin Tin. She began her acting career shortly after her 1923 graduation from Hollywood High School, and was signed to a contract by Warner Brothers in 1924. In 1925, she became one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars. In 1928, she was an actress under contract with Universal Studios. Her career did well until the introduction of talkies. Pete the Pup (original, 1924 – June 1930; second Pete, September 9, 1929 – January 28, 1946) was a character in Hal Roach's '' Our Gang'' comedies (later known as ''The Little Rascals'') during the 1930s, otherwise known as "Pete, the dog with the ring around his eye", or simply "Petey". The original Pete (sired by "Tudor's Black Jack") was a UKC registered American Pit Bull Terrier named "Pal, the Wonder Dog", and had a natural ring almost completely around his right eye; dye was used to finish it off. The second Pete was an American Staffordshire Terrier named Lucenay’s Peter. Donald Haines (May 9, 1919 – February 20, 1943) was an American child actor who had recurring appearances in the ''Our Gang'' short subjects series from 1930 to 1933. He appeared in ''Our Gang'' during the early sound days along with Norman "Chubby" Chaney, Allen "Farina" Hoskins, Jackie Cooper, Matthew "Stymie" Beard, Bobby "Wheezer" Hutchins, and Dorothy DeBorba. Early years Haines was born in Seward County, Nebraska, the son of Karl and Nola Haines. Their family moved to California when he was 9 years old. ''Our Gang'' Haines's tenure began during the early talkies up through the "Miss Crabtree episodes," and then the early Spanky episodes.
