"Love (Can Make You Happy)" is a song written by Jack Sigler, Jr. and performed by Mercy. It reached #2 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, where "Get Back" by The Beatles kept it from the #1 spot. On other US charts, the song also peaked at #2 on ''Billboard''s Easy Listening chart in 1969. Outside the US, the song also reached #2 on Canada's ''RPM'' 100, and #1 on ''RPM''s Adult Contemporary chart. The song was ranked #42 on ''Billboard'' magazine's Top ''Hot 100'' songs of 1969. History The song was originally released on Sundi Records, but as the single climbed up the charts, the group's lead singer, Sigler, faced being drafted. Sundi Records quickly released the album ''Love (Can Make You Happy)'' that included the song plus other cover songs that were not recorded by any of the original group. Mercy is an American pop group from Florida. The group's 1969 single " Love (Can Make You Happy)", written by Jack Sigler, Jr., soared to No. 2 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart, and also peaked at No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart. "Love (Can Make You Happy)" was released in April and had sold over one million copies by July 15, earning a gold record from the R.I.A.A., although the group did not receive the award until October 2009. The track was originally released on the small Tampa, Florida-based Sundi record label, at which time it was also included in the movie, '' Fireball Jungle''. The B-side of the Sundi single was entitled "Fire Ball". During the single's rapid rise in the charts, an album was released by a group calling themselves "The Mercy" (with a cover showing three girls), that included the Sundi recording, as well as several other songs that were not recorded by any of the original Mercy members. Boris Gardiner
Boris Gardiner (born 13 January 1943) is a Jamaican singer, songwriter and bass guitarist. He was a member of several groups during the 1960s before recording as a solo artist and having hit singles with " Elizabethan Reggae" (in 1970), " I Wanna Wake Up with You" and "You're Everything to Me" (both 1986). One of his most notable credits is bass on the influential reggae song "Real Rock." Career Born in the Rollington Town area of Kingston, Jamaica, Gardiner attended Franklin Town Government School and St Monica's College, dropping out of education after being diagnosed with tachycardia. In 1960 he joined Richard Ace's band the Rhythm Aces, which also included Delano Stewart, later of the Gaylads. With the group he recorded "Angella", and the local hits "A Thousand Teardrops" and "C–H–R–I–S–T–M–A–S" (written with his brother Barrington). ''Fireball Jungle'' is a 1968 melodrama directed by Joseph P. Mawra and starring John Russell and Lon Chaney Jr. The film featured the hit single, "Love (Can Make You Happy)" by Mercy and was filmed in and around Tampa, Florida. Plot Gangster Nero Sagittarius hires stock car driver Cateye Meares, leader of a band of sadistic thugs, to help him gain control of several automobile racetracks. Steve Cullen, whose brother was killed in an accident caused by Cateye, races under an alias while attempting to implicate the murderer. Infuriated by Steve's skill, Cateye assaults him. Belle and Sebastian are a Scottish indie pop band formed in Glasgow in 1996. Led by Stuart Murdoch, the band has released eleven albums. Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. Music Sampling
In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations.
