Love's Whirlpool (1924 Film)
''Love's Whirlpool'' is a 1924 American silent crime drama film directed by Bruce Mitchell and starring James Kirkwood and Lila Lee. Plot Hardened criminal Jim Reagan (James Kirkwood) tries to persuade his adolescent brother, Larry (Robert Agnew), to abandon their life of crime. Rather than heeding Jim's warning, Larry arrested when he tries to rob a banker named Richard Milton (Edward Martindel). Milton refuses Jim's request for leniency and Larry is thrown in jail. Jim attempts to help his brother escape prison, but the boy is fatally wounded in the process. Jim and his girlfriend, Molly (Lila Lee), resolve to have vengeance. Jim and Molly kidnap Milton's daughter, Nadine (Madge Bellamy), after rescuing her from a shipwreck. Conveniently suffering from amnesia, Nadine becomes the unwitting foil in the plot against her father. The BFI National Archive is a department of the British Film Institute, and one of the largest film archives in the world. It was founded as the National Film Library in 1935; its first curator was Ernest Lindgren. In 1955, its name became the National Film Archive, and, in 1992, the National Film and Television Archive. Sidne Silverman (December 11, 1898 – March 10, 1950) was an American publisher. He was the president (publisher) and editor of ''Variety'' from 1933 to 1950. Life Silverman was born to a Jewish family on December 11, 1898., the son of Harriett "Hattie" (née Freeman) and Sime Silverman. His father was the founder and publisher of ''Variety'', an entertainment publication. Silverman began writing reviews for ''Variety'' at seven years old under the pseudonym of Skidgie as the world's youngest theatrical critic. When his father died in 1933, he became its president (publisher) and editor. Silverman contracted tuberculosis in 1936 and could no longer take a day to day role at the paper. Silverman married Marie Saxon, a Broadway musical comedy actress, on May 31, 1924. They resided in Harrison, New York, where he died on March 10, 1950, at age 51. Saxon had died in 1941.
