Louisville And Nashville Railroad Depot At Pascagoula
Pascagoula station is a closed intercity train station in Pascagoula, Mississippi, United States. It originally the served the Louisville and Nashville Railroad but was most recently a stop for Amtrak. The station is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Depot, and was designated a Mississippi Landmark by the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. In addition, the station serves as an art gallery owned by the Singing River Art Association. History The station building was constructed in 1904. L&N added enlarged the waiting room in 1918 as well as enlarged and altered some of the rooms. Former Louisville & Nashville services which utilized their station included the '' Crescent'' (New Orleans–New York), '' Pan-American'' (New Orleans–Cincinnati) and ''Humming Bird'' (New Orleans–Chicago and Cincinnati). Pascagoula ( ) is a city in Jackson County, Mississippi, United States. It is the principal city of the Pascagoula Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is part of the Gulfport–Biloxi–Pascagoula Combined Statistical Area. The population was 22,392 at the 2010 census, down from 26,200 at the 2000 census. As of 2019 the estimated population was 21,699. It is the county seat of Jackson County. The city is served by three airports: Mobile Regional Airport, to the northeast in Alabama; Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, about west of Pascagoula; and the Trent Lott International Airport, to the north in Jackson County. The ''Gulf Coast Limited'' was a passenger train service operated by Amtrak along the Gulf Coast of the United States. It ran daily between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama, with stops in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula, Mississippi. The route first operated in 1984–1985, and again in 1996–1997. Amtrak plans to resume service over the former route of the ''Gulf Coast Limited'' in 2024, with two daily round trips. The restored route has been referred to as the ''Gulf Coast'' and ''Mardi Gras Service'' during planning, with a final name yet to be confirmed.
