Louisiana Krewe FC is an American soccer team based in Lafayette, Louisiana and competes within USL League Two. As members of the Gulf Coast Premier League, the team earned national attention when it qualified for the 2020 U.S. Open Cup in its first season of eligibility prior to the tournament's cancelation. History Krewe FC was founded in late 2018 as an adult team extension of the Louisiana Dynamo Jrs youth organization in Lafayette. As an amateur affiliate of the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer, the club hopes to provide "Louisiana players exceptional playing and training opportunities" through the connection to professional soccer. On October 27, 2021, the Krewe were announced as a new expansion team in USL League Two. Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are the athletic teams of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The college has been competing athletically since 1901. The Ragin' Cajuns compete in NCAA Division I, fielding 16 varsity teams. Nickname The university states that "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns" is the nickname of the school's athletic teams. Founded in 1898 as Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (SLII), the school adopted Bulldogs as a team nickname in 1921. The nickname persisted when the school was renamed Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI) in 1921 and the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL) in 1960. The university's 1963 football team was unusually strong in homegrown talent; 35 of its 39 players were from Louisiana, with 30 from within 100 miles of Lafayette. The National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) is a professional men's soccer league in the United States. The league is in the third tier of American soccer and began play in 2019. NISA initially used a fall-to-spring season format with a winter break but have switched to spring-to-fall which is more common in the United States. The Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) is a United States Adult Soccer Association affiliated Amateur Elite League that includes teams from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The regular season of the GCPL runs May through July. The Fall 2021 NISA season will be the third season of the National Independent Soccer Association's third-division soccer competition. The season will take place only during the Fall in order to realign the league's seasons with the calendar year. Poplarville is a city in Pearl River County, Mississippi, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 2,894. It is the county seat of Pearl River County. It hosts an annual Blueberry Jubilee, which includes rides, craft vendors and rodeos. History Poplarville was named for Poplar Jim Smith, the original owner of the town site. In 1959, Mack Charles Parker, an African-American accused of rape, was abducted from the Pearl River County jail in Poplarville by a mob and shot to death. Despite confessions, no charges were filed against anyone. It was founded as Pearl River County Agricultural High School in 1909 and became the first junior college in Mississippi in 1921.
