Louisiana Department Of Veterans Affairs
In 1944, the Louisiana Office of Veterans Affairs was created to provide local services to Louisiana Veterans and their families. As the number of Veterans in the state grew, so did the need to expand programs and services to support their needs. Thus, in 2003 the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) was established as a cabinet-level department of the State of Louisiana with the mission to provide comprehensive care and quality service to Louisiana's Veterans and their families with regard to health care, education, disability benefits, long-term care, and burial honors. LDVA is responsible for the oversight of the five Louisiana Veterans Homes, the four Louisiana Veterans Cemeteries (with the fifth cemetery currently under construction), and the 64 parish service offices. Slidell is a city on the northeast shore of Lake Pontchartrain in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 28,781 at the 2020 census. It is part of the New Orleans− Metairie−Kenner metropolitan statistical area. History Beginning One of the earlier settlers to the area was Foster Willie. Along with a younger brother, Wesley Coke Asbury Gause, Judge Wingate, and several others, he left Shallotte, North Carolina, on February 18, and arrived at Pearlington, Mississippi, on April 14, 1836. Wesley and his family remained there, while John and family crossed the Pearl River and built a log cabin on the west bank, a little further south. Rodney McKinnie Alexander (born December 5, 1946) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who served as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs from September 30, 2013, until June 3, 2014. Previously he was the U.S. representative for from 2003 to 2013. First elected as a Democrat, he changed parties in 2004 to run as a Republican and was re-elected five times. His district covered twenty-four parishes in roughly the northeast quadrant of the state but stretched much further south as a result of the 2010 census. On August 6, 2013, Alexander announced that he would not seek a seventh term in the House in the 2014 congressional elections. David Alan LaCerte (born November 6, 1979) was the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) in the administration of Governor Bobby Jindal. He had been the Interim Secretary from January 2013 to September 2013. He served as an appointee of President Donald Trump as a senior advisor at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. In January 2021, he was appointed as a Senior Advisor and Executive Counsel at the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board and served as Acting Managing Director. Joey Strickland
Joey Strickland is an American military officer. He retired from the Army after 29 years, and became Director of the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services, then became Veterans Affairs Secretary for the state of Louisiana. Childhood Strickland is a Choctaw-Cherokee. He graduated from high school in 1966 and went directly into the Army. Career Strickland served 28.9 years in the U.S. Army, including two combat tours of duty in Vietnam.
