Louise Archambault is a Canadian film director and screenwriter.Adam Nayman"Louise Archambault" ''The Canadian Encyclopedia'', August 20, 2014. She is best known for her films '' Familia'', which won the Claude Jutra Award in 2005, and '' Gabrielle'', which won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Picture in 2014. She has directed numerous short films, including ''Atomic Saké'', ''Lock'', ''Petite Mort'' and ''Kluane''. Her film ''Gabrielle'' was screened in the Special Presentation section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, and won two Canadian Screen Awards at the 2nd Canadian Screen Awards, for Best Picture and Best Actress for star Gabrielle Marion-Rivard. Her third feature film ''And the Birds Rained Down'', an adaptation of Jocelyne Saucier's novel ''Il pleuvait des oiseaux'', was released in 2019. ''Familia'' is a 2005 French-language Canadian drama film. It was directed and written by Louise Archambault. Plot The story revolves around two main characters: Michèle (Moreau, also known as "Charlotte Rocks her Socks"), a free-spirited aerobics instructor with a penchant for gambling, and Janine (Grenon), a suburban housewife and home decorator with a cheating husband. The lives of these two longtime friends intersect when Michele goes to live with Janine to escape an abusive boyfriend. Tensions abound as Michele's daughter Marguerite (St. Sauveur) introduces Janine's daughter Gabrielle (Gosselin) to a world of boys, drugs, and alcohol. Jocelyne Saucier (born May 27, 1948 in Clair, New Brunswick) is a Canadian novelist and journalist based in Quebec. Career Educated in political science at the Université Laval, Saucier worked as a journalist in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec before publishing her debut novel, ''La Vie comme une image'', in 1996. That book was a finalist for the Governor General's Award for French-language fiction at the 1996 Governor General's Awards.
