Louis Vuitton Trophy La Maddalena
The Louis Vuitton Trophy La Maddalena was the third in a scheduled series of regattas that compete for the Louis Vuitton Trophy. The regatta occurred in La Maddalena between 22 May - 6 June 2010. The Louis Vuitton Trophy format uses existing International America's Cup Class yachts loaned to the regatta by various America's Cup racing syndicates, keeping costs relatively low for the competing teams. The Louis Vuitton Trophy was organised after the success of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series and the continued America's Cup (33rd edition), legal battle surrounding the America's Cup yachting competition at the time. Because of the long delays from the legal action, and the fact that the 2010 America's Cup became a Deed of Gift match without a defender or challenger selection series, the Louis Vuitton Trophy series was established as a competition for other America's Cup racing syndicates. Francesco "Checco" Bruni (born 11 April 1973) is a professional sailor from Italy, together with James Spithill, helmsman of Luna Rossa during the America's Cup 2021. He is the brother of the sailor Gabriele Bruni with whom he teamed up in 49er regattas during the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney, Australia. Biography He has competed in the Summer Olympics three times, all in different classes. He finished 12th at the 1996 Olympics in a Laser, 11th at the 2000 Olympics in a 49er and 7th at the 2004 Olympics in the Star class. Yacht Club Costa Smeralda was established by the Aga Khan in 1967. It is situated at Porto Cervo in Costa Smeralda, northern Sardinia and provides services for recreational sailors. The club challenged for the 1983 America's Cup with ''Azzurra'' in Newport, Rhode Island, coming third. Azzurra
Azzurra is a yacht racing team that competed in the America's Cup, the Audi MedCup and the 52 Super Series for the Italian Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. History Funded by business magnate Aga Khan IV and industrialist Gianni Agnelli, and managed by businessman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Azzurra began to compete in 1982. They competed in the 1983 Louis Vuitton Cup in Newport with ''Azzurra'' (I–4), but were not able to advance to the 1983 America's Cup. Gavin Brady
Gavin Brady (born 1 November 1973 in Timaru) is a New Zealand sailor who has competed in the Summer Olympics and multiple America's Cups. After sailing the sponsor boat for New Zealand Challenge at the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup, Brady was the tactician for Tag Heuer Challenge at the 1995 Louis Vuitton Cup. He then sailed the 1997–98 Whitbread Round the World Race as the helmsman on ''Chessie Racing''. Brady was third at the 1999 ISAF Open Match Racing World Championship. He then joined AmericaOne for the 2000 Louis Vuitton Cup. In 1999 he was helming inshore races in the winning Dutch , Champagne Mumm Admiral's Cup Team. Terry Hutchinson
Terry Hutchinson (born May 20, 1968) is an American sailor eleven-time world champion in the Corel 45, J/24, TP 52, Farr 40 and IMS classes, and a winning tactician of the Louis Vuitton Cup. In 2008 and 2014, he was named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. He has also been part of five America's Cup campaigns. Background He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and went to St. Mary's High School. Paul Pierre Cayard (born May 19, 1959) is an American yachtsman and professional sailor. He has competed at multiple world championship level sailing events, including the America's Cup, the Whitbread Round the World Race, the Volvo Ocean Race and the Olympic Games. In 1998 he was selected as the US Rolex Yachtsmen of the Year. He has won seven world championships, twice participated in the Olympic Games and seven times in the America's Cup. Royal Swedish Yacht Club ( sv, Kungliga Svenska Segelsällskapet, KSSS), is the largest and oldest yacht club in Sweden and one of the five oldest in the world, formed 15 May 1830. KSSS is also the oldest yacht club in Continental Europe. Activities include racing, training, education, squadron sailing, match racing and club activities.
