Louis Roberts
Louis Melville Roberts (December 15, 1879 – February 11, 1958) was an American-Canadian politician from Alberta. Early life Louis Melville Roberts was born December 15, 1879 to Scottish parents in Cedar County, Iowa. He attended the University of Iowa completing a Bachelor of Laws. He married Helen Atkinson on July 12, 1906 and had two children together. Roberts constructed "Roberts Block", a three-storey brick warehouse on 11th Avenue in Calgary in 1909, which remains standing to this day. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta is the deliberative assembly of the province of Alberta, Canada. It sits in the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. The Legislative Assembly currently has 87 members, elected first past the post from single-member electoral districts. 1909 Alberta General Election
The 1909 Alberta general election was the second general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on March 22, 1909, to elect 41 members of the Alberta legislature to the 2nd Alberta Legislature. The incumbent Liberal Party led by Premier Alexander C. Rutherford was re-elected to a majority government with 36 of the 41 seats in the legislature, and just under 60 per cent of the popular vote. The Conservative Party led by Albert Robertson formed the official opposition, with only two members, with Robertson was defeated in his own seat in High River. The remaining three seats were split between smaller parties and independents. Albert Robertson
Albert John Robertson (September 17, 1864 – January 3, 1952) was a Canadian politician from Alberta and the first Leader of the Opposition in the province's history. He led the Conservatives in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1905 to 1909, before being defeated in the 1909 election. Political career Though he had lived in Nanton, Alberta for several years, he was still regarded as a newcomer when he was selected as the Conservative candidate in the district of High River for the 1905 Alberta provincial election. He had what the ''Calgary Herald'' described as "extensive farming operations near Nanton" and was the general manager of Nanton Grain & Lumber.
