Louis Mercanton (4 May 1879 – 29 April 1932) was a Swiss film director, screenwriter and actor. Mercanton was born in Nyon, Canton of Vaud, Switzerland and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. ''Miarka'' or ''Miarka: The Daughter of the Bear'' (French: ''Miarka, la fille à l'ourse'') is a 1920 French silent drama film directed by Louis Mercanton and starring Ivor Novello. The film is also known by the alternative title of ''Gypsy Passion''. It was shot on location in the Camargue region. It was based on a novel by Jean Richepin which was later turned into a sound film of the same name''. Production It was made at British and Dominions Elstree Studios by the British subsidiary of Paramount Pictures.Wood p.72. he film's sets were designed by the art director Holmes Paul. Buchanan had recently made the hit ''Monte Carlo'' for Paramount in Hollywood and came to Britain to appear in this film which Paramount put larger resources into rather than other American companies who produced quota quickies. Pierre Adrien Decourcelle (25 January 1856 - 10 October 1926) was a French writer and playwright. Life Pierre Adrien Decourcelle was born in Paris on 25 January 1856. His father, Adrien Decourcelle, and his uncle, Adolphe d'Ennery, were both authors. He attended the Lycée Henri-IV, then worked as a merchant and stockbroker before starting to write plays. Decourcelle's first effort, ''Le Grain de beauté (The Beauty Mark)'' premiered at the Théâtre du Gymnase Marie Bell on 27 March 1880. In 1882 he wrote the drama ''L'As de trèfle (The Ace of Clubs)'' for Sarah Bernhardt, who performed it at the Théâtre de l'Ambigu. From the 1880s onward he created many comedies, opera libretti and adaptations of novels for the stage.
