Louis J. Schneider Jr.
Louis Jacob Schneider Jr. (1921–1999) was a Republicanism, Republican lawyer from Ohio who was elected twice to the Ohio Supreme Court. Before his judicial service he was in the Ohio House of Representatives, a county commissioner, the state tax commissioner, and was a legal author. Schneider was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 26, 1921, the son of Louis J. and Florence Schneider. He graduated Cincinnati Public Schools, Cincinnati public schools and attended Princeton University 1939 to 1941. He then attended the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1943. He then entered the United States Army, commissioned as a first lieutenant. He was discharged in 1946. Schneider graduated from the Cincinnati Law School in 1949, passed the bar exam, and entered private practice. In 1952, he and his father authored ''Schneider's Criminal Code'', which was reprinted a number of times. Bold indicates chief judge or chief justice. The Supreme Court of Ohio, Ohio Supreme Court was created by the Ohio Constitution of 1802 with three judges, and had three or four through 1851. In 1851, the number of judges was increased to five. In 1892, the number of judges was increased to six. In 1912, the office of chief justice was created and the total number of judges was increased to seven (including the chief justice). In 1968, all the supreme court judges were re-titled as justice.
