Louis Gigante
Louis Robert Gigante (March 19, 1932October 19, 2022) was an American priest of the Catholic Church and a Bronx community activist, serving as one of the borough's New York City Council members. He founded the South East Bronx Community Organization (SEBCO). Early life Gigante was born in Manhattan on March 19, 1932. His father, Salvatore, was employed as a watchmaker; his mother, Yolanda (Santasilia), worked as a seamstress. Both immigrated to the United States from Naples and did not speak English. He was the brother of two Genovese crime family members, family boss Vincent "The Chin" Gigante and top capo/acting boss Mario Gigante. Gigante was raised in Greenwich Village and attended Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx. He played for its basketball team that won the Catholic schools city championship in 1949, before graduating the following year. New York Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of the State of New York is the trial-level court of general jurisdiction in the New York State Unified Court System. New York City's 8th City Council district is one of 51 districts in the New York City Council. It has been represented by Democrat Diana Ayala since 2018, succeeding fellow Democrat and former Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito. Slumlord
A slumlord (or slum landlord) is a slang term for a landlord, generally an absentee landlord with more than one property, who attempts to maximize profit by minimizing spending on property maintenance, often in deteriorating neighborhoods, and to tenants that they can intimidate. Severe housing shortages allow slumlords to charge higher rents, and when they can get away with it, to break rental laws. The term "ghetto landlord" has also been used. A "retail slumlord" is one who keeps a shopping mall in a bad shape until the government buys or confiscates it. The origin of the phrase "slumlord" is unknown, but an early mention can be found in a 1927 journal article titled, "Theories, Facts, and Figures" by William L.
