Louis Fabritius Dubourg
Louis Fabricius Dubourg or Louis Fabritius du Bourg was an historical and academic painter of arcadian landscapes, and an engraver. Life His parents Jean du Bourg(h) and Elisabeth Burlamacchi married in 1681. ''Louis Fabrice'' was baptized on 5 July 1693 in the Walloon church. He was a pupil of Gerard de Lairesse, Gerrit Rademaker (1672-1711) and Jacob van Huysum. In 1718 he became sexton of a small wooden church on Kerkstraat. Around 1726 he was practising foreshortening and may have been a member of an academy; he produced a lot of nude (art) during his life. When he married Eva de Kaarsgieter in 1729 he cooperated with Bernard Picart. After producing several beautiful pictures, some of which may be seen at the Westerkerk, the New Church and town hall of Amsterdam, he exchanged the brush for the graver, and executed some vignettes and other small compositions, and also etched a number of plates from his own designs. Burin (engraving)
A burin ( ) is a steel cutting tool used in engraving, from the French ''burin'' (cold chisel). Its older English name and synonym is graver. Etymology The term ''burin'' refers to a tool used by engravers that has a thin, pointed blade and it used to etch or cut. The first known use of the word dates back to France in the mid-1600s when the term was coined for the tool we know today. Design The burin consists of a rounded handle shaped like a mushroom, and a tempered steel shaft, coming from the handle at an angle, and ending in a very sharp cutting face. The most ubiquitous types have a square or lozenge face, a high-end repertoire has many others. A tint burin consists of a square face with teeth, to create many fine, closely spaced lines. A stipple tool allows for the creation of fine dots. A flat burin consists of a rectangular face, and is used for cutting away large portions of material at a time. Pieter Tanjé (1706–1761) was an 18th-century engraver from the Northern Netherlands. Biography Tanjé was born in Bolsward. Jacob Folkema
Jacob Folkema (18 August 1692 – 3 February 1767), a Dutch designer and engraver, was born and died at Dokkum, in Friesland. He was first instructed by his father, Johann Jakob Folkema, a goldsmith, and studied afterwards under B. Picart at Amsterdam. During that time he worked for Royaumont's ''Bible'', 1712, and Ruysch's ''Anatomy'', 1737. Folkema was also an excellent engraver in mezzotint. He had a sister, Anna Folkema, who painted miniatures, assisted her brother, and engraved some few plates. She was born in 1695, and died in 1768.
