Louis Cyr (; born Cyprien-Noé Cyr, October 10, 1863 - November 10, 1912) was a Canadian strongman with a career spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His recorded feats, including lifting (1/4 ton) with one finger and backlifting (2 tons), show Cyr to be, according to former International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness chairman Ben Weider as stated in 2000, the strongest man ever. Early years Cyr was born in Saint-Cyprien-de-Napierville, Quebec, Canada. Coming from a French-Acadian family, he began developing his extraordinary strength at an early age. From the age of twelve Cyr worked in a lumber camp during the winters and on the family's farm the rest of the year. Discovering his exceptional strength at a very young age, he impressed his fellow workers with his feats of strength. Dinnie Stones
The Dinnie Stones (also called Stanes or Steens) are a pair of Scottish lifting stones located in Potarch, Aberdeenshire. They were made famous by strongman Donald Dinnie, who reportedly carried the stones barehanded across the width of the Potarch Bridge, a distance of , in 1860. They remain in use as lifting stones. John Grimek
John Carroll Grimek (June 17, 1910 – November 20, 1998) was an American bodybuilder and weightlifter active in the 1930s and 1940s. He was Mr. America in 1940 and 1941, and Mr. Universe in 1948. Throughout his career he carried the nicknames "The Monarch of Muscledom" and "The Glow." Life Grimek was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the son of Slovak immigrants George and Maria Grimek, peasants from the village Ústie nad Oravou in northern Slovakia. Grimek moved to York, Pennsylvania in 1935 to join Bob Hoffman, the founder of York Barbell.
