Louis (Ludwig) Martin
Ludwig "Louis" Martin (November 11, 1820 – June 16, 1864) was with the first settlers to Fredericksburg, Texas. He was the first sheriff of Gillespie County, and also served as District Clerk of the county. Martin was a co-founder of the Mason County community of Hedwigs Hill. Early years Ludwig Martin was born November 25, 1820, in Erndtebrück North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, to Nicholas Martin and his wife Hedwig Sinner Martin. Texas New Braunfels and Fredericksburg Martin emigrated to Texas with the first wave of Adelsverein settlers. Erndtebrück is a municipality in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Piedras Negras () is a city and seat of the Piedras Negras Municipality, surrounding municipality of the same name in the Mexican list of states of Mexico, state of Coahuila. It stands at the northeastern edge of Coahuila on the Mexico–United States border, across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass, Texas, Eagle Pass in the U.S. state of Texas. In the 2015 census the city had a population of 163,595 inhabitants, while the metropolitan area had a population of 245,155 inhabitants.
