Lougheed is a village in central Alberta, Canada. It is located 94 km south-east of Camrose, along Highway 13. Lougheed Island
Lougheed Island is one of the uninhabited members of the Queen Elizabeth Islands of the Arctic Archipelago in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut. It measures in size. It is relatively isolated compared to other Canadian Arctic islands, and is located in the Arctic Ocean, halfway between Ellef Ringnes Island to the northeast and Melville Island to the southwest. It is part of the Findlay Group. History The first known sighting of the island was in 1916 by Vilhjalmur Stefansson, during his Canadian Arctic Expedition. The island is named for Canadian businessperson and politician James Alexander Lougheed. On April 14, 1993, Environment Canada revoked a permit issued to Panarctic Oils Ltd. to dispose of 400 tonnes of scrap metal in the ocean off Lougheed Island. The City of Lougheed is the second-largest shopping centre in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, with and over 160 shops and services. It is located in the northeast corner of Burnaby near the Coquitlam border. Mount Lougheed is a triple-peak mountain located between Spray Lakes Reservoir and the Wind Valley of Kananaskis Country in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. The highest summit is known as Peak 2 (3,107 metres). Peak 1 to the northwest is 3,080 metres. Peak 3 to the southeast is 3,010 metres. The nearest higher peak is Wind Mountain, to the southeast. Allan Haines Lockheed (né Allan Haines Loughead; January 20, 1889 – May 26, 1969) was an American aviation engineer and business man. He formed the Alco Hydro-Aeroplane Company along with his brother, Malcolm Loughead, that became Lockheed Corporation.Parker, Dana T. Cook Olin Pierre "O.P." Lougheed (April 8, 1922April 23, 2008) was a Fort Wayne entrepreneur, Allen County Councilman, civil leader and philanthropist. He was well known for his lengthy service to the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, Parkview Hospital and the Boy Scouts of America. A longtime Fort Wayne resident, Lougheed started the Earth Construction Company in the 1950s. A highly successful businessman, at one time, Cook was president of 11 different companies, involving real estate and lake developments and equipment. He was inducted into the Greater Fort Wayne Junior Achievement Business and Education Leaders Hall of Fame in 2004 and received one of scouting's highest awards - the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award in 1977. David Cameron Lougheed (born April 11, 1968) is a Canadian former rugby union footballer, playing at wing and centre. He was considered large for a winger, being 1.88m tall and weighing 91 kg though his quick feet and amazing hands made up any imbalances. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Lougheed was educated at Queen's University, Canada, starting his career playing at Toronto Welsh and then Balmy Beach. In 1990, Lougheed made his debut for Canada against Argentina and went on to gain 34 caps. Despite retiring from the international game after the 1999 World Cup, he returned to play in the 2003 World Cup. In 1998, Lougheed signed for Leicester Tigers, playing his debut against Harlequins. Sir James Alexander Lougheed, ( or ; 1 September 1854 – 2 November 1925) was a businessman, lawyer and politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a senator for 35 years, and held a number of Cabinet positions. Early life Lougheed was born in the village of Tullamore, in Chinguacousy Township, which is now part of Brampton, Ontario. Tullamore was home to many first-generation, Protestant, Irish-Canadians from the south part of county Sligo.
