Lou Dijkstra
Luitzen "Lou" Dijkstra (7 May 1909 – 24 April 1964) was a Dutch speed skater who competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics. He was born in Paesens, Friesland. In 1936 he finished 16th in the 5000 metres event, 20th in the 1500 metres competition, as well as 20th in the 10000 metres event, and 24th in the 500 metres competition. Paesens
Peazens is a village in Noardeast-Fryslân in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It has a population of around 242 in January 2017. Before 2019, the village was part of the Dongeradeel municipality. There is a restored windmill in the village, De Hond, Paesens, De Hond. Peazens is twinned with Moddergat, and they are often referred to as "Peazens-Moddergat". History The village was first mentioned in 1415 as pazene wal. The etymology is unclear. The village of Peazens was founded in the 11th on the new Dyke (embankment), dike along the Wadden Sea. Moddergat was founded later from Peazens, and used to consist of two hamlets: De Kamp and De Oere. The Dutch Reformed church dates from around 1200. The 1964 Winter Olympics, officially known as the IX Olympic Winter Games (german: IX. Olympische Winterspiele) and commonly known as Innsbruck 1964 ( bar, Innschbruck 1964, label=Austro-Bavarian), was a winter multi-sport event which was celebrated in Innsbruck, Austria, from January 29 to February 9, 1964. The city was already an Olympic candidate, unsuccessfully bidding to host the 1960 Games. Innsbruck won the 1964 Games bid, defeating the cities of Calgary in Canada and Lahti in Finland. The sports venues, many of which were built for the Games, were located within a radius of around Innsbruck. Sjoukje Rosalinde Dijkstra (, born 28 January 1942) is a Dutch former competitive figure skater. She is the 1964 Olympic champion in ladies' singles, the 1960 Olympic silver medalist, a three-time World champion (1962–1964), five-time European champion (1960–1964), and the six-time Dutch national champion (1959–1964). Personal life Sjoukje Rosalinde Dijkstra was born on 28 January 1942 in Akkrum, Netherlands. She is the daughter of Lou Dijkstra, a speed skater who competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics. She married Karl Kossmayer, with whom she has two daughters, Rosalie and Katja.
