Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica
Premios MTV Latinoamérica (previously known as MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica or VMALA's) was the Latin American version of the Video Music Awards. They were established in 2002 to celebrate the top music videos of the year in Latin America and the world. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Networks Latin America. Until 2004, all the VMALAs were held in Miami. The 2005 edition was the first one planned to be held outside the United States, but the show was cancelled ( see below). The 2006 VMALAs (Premios MTV Latinoamérica) were held in Mexico City, and therefore were the first ones to actually be celebrated in Latin America. In 2010 the awards were permanently cancelled. The statues given to winners of the award are called "''Lenguas''" because the statue is of a tongue. The annual Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2006 took place on October 19, 2006 in Mexico City at Palacio de los Deportes for the first time. They were the first MTV awards celebrated in Latin America and the ceremony returned in style after last year's awards were cancelled due to Hurricane Wilma approaching to the Riviera Maya and all of the presenters for the 2006 ceremony apologized to viewers during the broadcast for such. "No" is a song recorded by Colombian singer Shakira from her sixth studio album ''Fijación Oral, Vol. 1'' (2005). It was written by Shakira and Lester Mendez and features Argentine singer-songwriter Gustavo Cerati, who also played the guitar and provided backing vocals to the song. "No" was released as the second single from the album on 2 July 2005, by Epic Records. A Latin pop ballad, it explores a woman's effort in trying to tell her boyfriend that she no longer wants to be involved in a toxic relationship and that separating is best for both. "No" received positive reviews from music critics, being called a "tender" ballad by a reviewer from '' Billboard''. Miranda!
Miranda! is an Argentine electropop band formed in 2001. Original band members include Alejandro Sergi (vocals), Juliana Gattas (vocals), Lolo Fuentes (guitar), Bruno de Vincenti (programming), and since 2003, Nicolás Grimaldi (bass). It is currently a duo between Sergi and Gattas. The group has found success throughout Latin America as well as in the United States and Europe. History In 2001, Alejandro Sergi teamed up with Juliana Gattas, Lolo Fuentes and Bruno de Vincenti to form Miranda!, labeling their style as ''melodramatic electropop''. Named after Argentinian actor Osvaldo Miranda, the group finally met the actor in December 2002 during the Buen Dia Arriba Festival in Palermo Viejo. MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica 2005
The annual MTV Videos Music Awards Latinoamérica were to be held Wednesday, October 19 at the Xcaret Park's Great Tlachco Theater in Playa del Carmen (close to Cancún), Quintana Roo, Mexico, for the first time in a different location since their creation. However, due to the approach of Hurricane Wilma towards the Mexican Riviera Maya, the show was moved from October 20 to the 19th, but it was eventually postponed. The date was then moved again, this time to December 22. A couple of months later, MTV decided that it was not feasible to have the show on the aforementioned scheduled date. Instead, the awards were given out on a half-hour special called "Por Fin Los Premios MTV 2005" where the winners received their awards after having practical jokes played on them (a la ''Punk'd''). Julieta Venegas Percevault (; born November 24, 1970) is an American-born Mexican singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer who sings pop-rock-indie in Spanish. She went on to join several bands including Mexican ska band Tijuana No!. Venegas plays 17 instruments including acoustic guitar, accordion, and keyboard. In 1997, she released her debut album '' Aquí'' to favorable reviews in Mexico by the rock audience. Babasónicos
Babasónicos is an Argentine rock band, formed in the early 1990s along with others such as Peligrosos Gorriones and Los Brujos. After emerging in the wave of Argentine New Rock bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Babasonicos became one of the banner groups of the "sonic" underground rock movement in Argentina in the late 1990s. The band name refers partly to Sai Baba, the Indian guru, and partly to ''The Jetsons'', whose Spanish version is called ''Los Supersónicos'' (The Supersonics). The lead singer Adrián "Dárgelos" Rodríguez and the keyboardist Diego "Uma-T" Tuñón initially decided to create a new style, which would not follow the established Argentine music. Alejandro Sanz
Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro, better known as Alejandro Sanz (; born 18 December 1968), is a Spanish musician, singer and composer. Sanz has won 22 Latin Grammy Awards and four Grammy Awards. He has received the Latin Grammy for Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, Album of the Year three times. The singer is notable for his flamenco-influenced ballads, and has also experimented with several other genres including pop music, pop, rock music, rock, funk, contemporary R&B, R&B and jazz. Born in Madrid to parents from Andalusia, Sanz began playing guitar at age seven, taking influence from his family's flamenco roots.
