Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica
Premios MTV Latinoamérica (previously known as MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica or VMALA's) was the Latin American version of the Video Music Awards. They were established in 2002 to celebrate the top music videos of the year in Latin America and the world. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Networks Latin America. Until 2004, all the VMALAs were held in Miami. The 2005 edition was the first one planned to be held outside the United States, but the show was cancelled ( see below). The 2006 VMALAs (Premios MTV Latinoamérica) were held in Mexico City, and therefore were the first ones to actually be celebrated in Latin America. In 2010 the awards were permanently cancelled. The statues given to winners of the award are called "''Lenguas''" because the statue is of a tongue. Hello Seahorse! is a Mexican alternative rock band formed in 2005 in Mexico City. The band gained quick recognition as one of the leading acts in Mexican alternative and indie rock, placing their first commercial single "Bestia" on regular radio airplay by November 2008. Early releases such as the EP ''Hoy a las Ocho'' featured lyrics in both English and Spanish, though later tracks are solely in the latter; these however deal about nonsense or surrealistic themes. The band's second album ''Bestia'' was released on May 19, 2009. The track "Bestia" from that album won the "song of the year" award at Mexico's 2009 "Indie-O Music Awards" ceremony. At the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica, they were nominated for and won the "La Zona" award. Patricia Giovanna Cantú Velasco (born 25 November 1983), known professionally as Paty Cantú, is a Mexican singer, songwriter and actress, who rose to fame as one of the founding members of the Mexican pop duo Lu. The eighth annual Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2009 took place on October 15, 2009 in Bogotá, Colombia at Corferias, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, United States, Mexico City, Mexico and Buenos Aires, Argentina. René Pérez Joglar, also known as Residente from Calle 13, alongside pop singer Nelly Furtado served as the hosts. Sylvia Villagran was the announcer for the show. Regional awards were given out on special events recorded prior to the main show to be held on October 15 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Buenos Aires was the first city to host this year's event. Miranda! and Pablo Lescano performed at Espacio Darwin on September 30. María José Loyola Anaya (born January 12, 1976), known professionally as María José is a Mexican singer, ballet and flamenco dancer, athlete and television personality. Her career started at age 15 when she joined the 90s famous Mexican band, Kabah as a vocalist. After leaving the band, in 2006, she continued her successful solo singing career and to date has released six studio albums. Biography She has a B.A. in communications. She is well known and established within the music industry since she was part of a very popular pop-singing band in Mexico, Kabah, from the mid to late 1990s. Camila is a Mexican pop rock group formed in 2005 by Mario Domm and Pablo Hurtado. Until 2013, Samo was also part of this group. The annual Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2007 took place on 18 October 2007 in Mexico City at the Palacio de los Deportes for the second time in a row. On 25 July 2007 the local government announced they will invest 10 million pesos on the show's planning and that they will have 16 giant screens around the city to broadcast the event live. There were 3 new categories: ''Best Urban Artist'', ''Influence Award'' and ''Fashionista''. Diego Luna was the host for the third time. He previously co-hosted the 2002 edition and hosted the 2003 edition. Belinda Peregrin was the most nominated female artist of the year. Café Tacuba were expected to play live on the show, but one day before the show MTV cancelled their presentation because according to MTV policies they can't have any other activities except for the ones MTV has planned for them in the upcoming week. Nikki Clan
Nikki Clan is a Mexican Pop rock band from Nogales, Sonora and Mexicali, Baja California. It is formed by Yadira Gianola (lead vocals), Alberto Espinosa (bass guitar), José Antonio Dabdoub (guitar), Ángel Yáñez (guitar), and José Carlos Fausto Monroy (drums). It was created in 2005 by known producer Abelardo Vázquez (also producer of Reik), and released its first album in 2006. The self-titled album, Nikki Clan, is part of a five-album contract with Sony BMG. "Mirame" (''Look at me'') was released as the first single with tremendous success. Motel (band)
Motel is a Mexican rock band created in 2002, consisting of Guillermo "Billy" Méndez and Rodrigo Dávila Chapoy. History Motel was formed when its original members — Rodrigo and Billy — reunited to perform music casually, without long-term career intentions. Both recorded songs in music studios and rehearsals independently for several months before coming together as a group. They then played as a duo in bars in Mexico City, eventually inviting Michel DeQuevedo (drums) and Rubén Puente (bass) to form part of the band. Michel DeQuevedo was later replaced by José Damián (drums) In March 2006, they released their debut album, ''Motel'', and single, "Dime Ven", both produced by Aureo Baqueiro and co-produced by Jay de la Cueva under the Warner Music label. Luis Gerardo Garza Cisneros (; born September 19, 1979 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México), better known as his stage name Chetes (), is a Mexican rock musician, well known for being the leader of the influential Avanzada Regia rock bands Zurdok, Vaquero and eventually, his own solo career. Biography Chetes was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico. His father was a founding member of the rock band ''Los Rockets'', which led to Chetes' interest in music. At age 7, he learned classic guitar, and started to like artists such as the Beatles and the Beach Boys. At the age of 12, he attempted to learn how to play drums, but this project was quickly abandoned when neighbors complained about the noise. When MTV arrived in the city, Chetes got even more excited about rock music so he learned about guitar distortion.
