Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica
Premios MTV Latinoamérica (previously known as MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica or VMALA's) was the Latin American version of the Video Music Awards. They were established in 2002 to celebrate the top music videos of the year in Latin America and the world. They are presented annually and broadcast live on MTV Networks Latin America. Until 2004, all the VMALAs were held in Miami. The 2005 edition was the first one planned to be held outside the United States, but the show was cancelled ( see below). The 2006 VMALAs (Premios MTV Latinoamérica) were held in Mexico City, and therefore were the first ones to actually be celebrated in Latin America. In 2010 the awards were permanently cancelled. The statues given to winners of the award are called "''Lenguas''" because the statue is of a tongue. MTV Video Music Awards Latinoamérica 2005
The annual MTV Videos Music Awards Latinoamérica were to be held Wednesday, October 19 at the Xcaret Park's Great Tlachco Theater in Playa del Carmen (close to Cancún), Quintana Roo, Mexico, for the first time in a different location since their creation. However, due to the approach of Hurricane Wilma towards the Mexican Riviera Maya, the show was moved from October 20 to the 19th, but it was eventually postponed. The date was then moved again, this time to December 22. A couple of months later, MTV decided that it was not feasible to have the show on the aforementioned scheduled date. Instead, the awards were given out on a half-hour special called "Por Fin Los Premios MTV 2005" where the winners received their awards after having practical jokes played on them (a la ''Punk'd''). Would-be hosts Molotov hosted this special and played live on a public concert in Playa del Carmen. Panda (band)
Panda (commonly stylized as PXNDX) was a Mexican rock band formed in Monterrey, Nuevo León in 1996 as part of the musical movement known as Avanzada Regia. The last line-up consisted in singer José Madero, drummer Jorge Vásquez, lead guitarist/Backup vocals Arturo Arredondo and bassist Ricardo Treviño. Founded by singer/guitarist José Madero, guitarist Jorge "Ongi" Garza, bass guitarist Ricardo Treviño and drummer David Castillo whom in 1997 Vásquez replaced. The band went to produce various demo recordings and later landed a deal with independent label Movic Records the following year. The band ended receiving local attention in 2000 with debut and second studio albums '' Arroz Con Leche'' and ''La Revancha Del Príncipe Charro'' (2002). The next year, they were the opening act for American rock band Blink-182 during their brief tour in Mexico. The eighth annual Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2009 took place on October 15, 2009 in Bogotá, Colombia at Corferias, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, United States, Mexico City, Mexico and Buenos Aires, Argentina. René Pérez Joglar, also known as Residente from Calle 13, alongside pop singer Nelly Furtado served as the hosts. Sylvia Villagran was the announcer for the show. Regional awards were given out on special events recorded prior to the main show to be held on October 15 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Buenos Aires was the first city to host this year's event. Miranda! and Pablo Lescano performed at Espacio Darwin on September 30. Ximena Sariñana
Ximena Sariñana Rivera (; born October 29, 1985) is a Mexican singer-songwriter and actress. In 2009, she received critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for her debut album, '' Mediocre''. Early life Ximena Sariñana was born in Guadalajara, Mexico to producer/director Fernando Sariñana and screenwriter Carolina Rivera and was raised in Mexico City. When she was two years old, Sariñana attended an Ella Fitzgerald concert, claiming this to be the beginning of her interest in music and one of her biggest influences. She soon started listening to other artists such as Paul Simon and Tracy Chapman. She would often be seen singing and dancing and dressed up in costumes as a child. When Sariñana was 7 years old, her neighbor, singer Cecilia Toussaint, suggested she should take singing lessons with her teacher, Ricardo Sánchez, who instructed some of Mexico's biggest talents. Zoé is a Grammy Award and Latin Grammy Award-winning Mexican rock band. It was initially formed in Mexico City in 1994, although membership started to stabilize in 1997. División Minúscula
División Minúscula (Spanish for "Minuscule Division") is a Mexican rock band from Matamoros, Tamaulipas. History The four members of División Minúscula, Javier Blake (singer-guitarist), Ricci Pérez (guitarist), Kiko Blake (drummer) and Alejandro Luque (bassist), formed the band in late 90s, in the town of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. After reuniting they hooked up with Toy Hernandez, the man behind Control Machete, who signed them to his Sones del Mexside label. The group’s 2001 debut was ''Extrañando Casa'' ("Homesick"). After a five-year hiatus the band reunited and released a new record, ''Defecto Perfecto'' ("Perfect Defect"). The annual Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2007 took place on 18 October 2007 in Mexico City at the Palacio de los Deportes for the second time in a row. On 25 July 2007 the local government announced they will invest 10 million pesos on the show's planning and that they will have 16 giant screens around the city to broadcast the event live. There were 3 new categories: ''Best Urban Artist'', ''Influence Award'' and ''Fashionista''. Diego Luna was the host for the third time. He previously co-hosted the 2002 edition and hosted the 2003 edition. Belinda Peregrin was the most nominated female artist of the year. Café Tacuba were expected to play live on the show, but one day before the show MTV cancelled their presentation because according to MTV policies they can't have any other activities except for the ones MTV has planned for them in the upcoming week. Motel (band)
Motel is a Mexican rock band created in 2002, consisting of Guillermo "Billy" Méndez and Rodrigo Dávila Chapoy. History Motel was formed when its original members — Rodrigo and Billy — reunited to perform music casually, without long-term career intentions. Both recorded songs in music studios and rehearsals independently for several months before coming together as a group. They then played as a duo in bars in Mexico City, eventually inviting Michel DeQuevedo (drums) and Rubén Puente (bass) to form part of the band. Michel DeQuevedo was later replaced by José Damián (drums) In March 2006, they released their debut album, ''Motel'', and single, "Dime Ven", both produced by Aureo Baqueiro and co-produced by Jay de la Cueva under the Warner Music label. Allison (band)
Allison is a Mexican rock band from Mexico City, Mexico that formed in 2002. Nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in 2013. History The band was started Erik Canales and Manuel Avila in 2002. They had known each other in high school for reasons other than music, and had individual musical projects before founding Allison, but none of these were successful, so they decided to create Allison along with two former members of a band Erik was in. Erik says he suggested the name after reading a poem about the true meaning of love: "Allison is the girl you're falling in love with and she with you, but still you don't know her". In 2003 they met Paco Zepeda, their current manager, and started working on demos and songs to present to some transnational labels.
