Los Furios
Los Furios is a nine-piece band from Vancouver, British Columbia which has performed across Western Canada since 2000. Los Furios began adding horns to the line-up in 2001 and have been evolving their blend of punk, ska, and reggae ever since. The band has variously featured a two- or three-piece horn section complemented by distinct songwriters and vocalists. This instrumentation adds to their diverse sound. Noticeable influences in their sound include acts such as The Clash, Sublime, Fishbone, and Rancid. The 6-song EP ''Los Furios'' ( Surrender Records 2003) was the first release to feature the horn driven sound people have come to associate with the band. Long Beach Short Bus
Long Beach Shortbus was an American reggae-influenced punk band from Long Beach, California, United States. The band consists of four regular members: RAS-1 (lead vocals and guitar), Trey Pangborn (guitar), Eric Wilson (bass guitar) and Damion Ramirez (drums). Shortbus originated as a side project of RAS-1 and Eric Wilson, eventually taking shape after the Long Beach Dub Allstars disbanded in 2002. Their first CD was a self-titled EP and featured their hit "California Grace." Their second CD was entitled ''Flying Ship of Fantasy'', featuring tracks from their first album. "California Grace" is also available on the soundtrack to the MTV reality series ''Laguna Beach''. On October 7, 2007, it was announced that the band would be parting ways. The Evaporators is a Canadian garage rock band formed in 1986 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Nardwuar, its founding member, is also known for interviewing musicians and celebrities. General Rudie
General Rudie was a third wave ska band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In their nine-year career, the band released two full-length albums on Stomp Records and toured extensively throughout Canada and the United States. Career General Rudie was founded in February 1997 and their first concert was in March 1997, as the opening act at a Flashlight Brown concert (who were at that time called ''Flashlight''). After playing together for three years, mostly in the Montreal area, they opened for The Skatalites in 2000. In the same year, the band performed in Toronto at ''Ska Ska Oi!'', a punk/ska concert organized by the Toronto chapter of Anti Racist Action. D.O.A. is a Canadian punk rock band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They are often referred to as the "founders" of hardcore punk along with Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Angry Samoans, Germs, and Middle Class. Their second album ''Hardcore '81'' was thought by many to have been the first actual reference to the second wave of the American punk sound as hardcore. Big D And The Kids Table
Big D and the Kids Table is a ska punk band formed in October 1995 in Boston, Massachusetts when its members converged in college. Their first release was on their own Fork in Hand Records label, but have since teamed with Springman Records and SideOneDummy. The band has been noted for its strict DIY work ethic, such as engineering, producing, and releasing their own albums and videos and self-promotion of their own shows. The band released Good Luck in 1999 on Asian Man Records and quickly gained a large underground audience. The album featured a 10 piece band, including six horn players. The album is characterized and widely liked due to its catchy horn melodies, along with its fun and energetic nature. The Toasters
The Toasters are one of the original American second wave of ska bands. Founded in New York City in 1981, the band has released nine studio albums, primarily through Moon Ska Records. History Englishman Robert "Bucket" Hingley relocated to New York City in 1980, where he managed that city's Forbidden Planet comic book store location. Hingley formed the Toasters in 1981 after seeing the Beat perform at the Roseland Ballroom. The group's first live show was supporting Bad Brains at A7 in 1981. One of the original second-wave ska bands, the early Toasters lineup included other employees of the Forbidden Planet store. The group self-released their first single, "Beat Up", in 1983. Flashlight Brown
Flashlight Brown is a Canadian punk rock band, originally from Guelph, who formed in 1996. Biography Bucchino, Conroy, Hughes, and Thomson formed a band, then simply called "Flashlight", out of boredom and frustration and quickly moved from the small college town of Guelph to the much larger Toronto, Ontario. At first, they were unable to get the attention of nightclub owners, so they devised a fictitious talent agency, called the Harry Wells Booking Agency, which would "represent" them. With the agency as their intermediate, they quickly gained enough recognition to go on tour. They began touring across Canada in a van. In 1997, they managed to release a self-titled debut album through the Quebec-based Stomp Records, which they would follow up with the ''Running Season'' LP two years later. Monkey is a third wave ska band based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their musical influences include the Skatalites, Prince Buster, the Specials, and non-ska artists such as: Elvis Costello, David Byrne and Tito Puente. Monkey has released five albums, the first two as independent releases, the next three by Asian Man Records. The Dreadnoughts
The Dreadnoughts are a Canadian 6-piece folk-punk band from Vancouver. The band combines a wide range of European folk music with modern street punk. The band has six full-length albums and three EPs on various labels, and has played around 500 shows in around 30 countries.
