The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) operates six rail lines as part of its Metro Rail system. This system includes 5 light rail lines and 2 heavy rail lines. The agency owns, operates, and maintains a fleet of over 450 rail vehicles to operate these services. Nippon Sharyo P865
The P865 and P2020 were articulated light rail vehicles used on the Los Angeles County Metro Rail system. They were manufactured by Nippon Sharyo and used on Metro's A Line, C Line (P2020), and E Line. The trains featured air conditioning, emergency intercoms, wheelchair spaces and automated announcements. They are of an air-electric design, with air powered doors, friction brakes, and a pantograph. Operational history The P865s were the first urban rail vehicles to run in Los Angeles County since the Pacific Electric Railway ceased operations in 1965 as the first cars were delivered in May 1989. , formed in 1896, is a major rolling stock manufacturer based in Nagoya, Japan. In 1996, it abbreviated its name to "日本車両" Nippon Sharyō. Its shortest abbreviation is Nissha "日車". The HR4000 is a rapid transit railcar being manufactured by CRRC and assembled in Springfield, Massachusetts for the Los Angeles Metro Rail heavy rail lines.
