Los Angeles Heat
Los Angeles Heat joined the Western Soccer Alliance in 1986. They joined the American Professional Soccer League in 1990 when the WSL merged with the American Soccer League, then folded in 1990. The club played in Torrance, California at West High School until their demise. The club folded in early 1991 following a season of low attendance and the lack of a suitable stadium after an announced move to Orange County. The Heat had accumulated $30,000 in unpaid bills and were one of several APSL teams to fold. Western Soccer League
Western Soccer Alliance was a professional soccer league featuring teams from the West Coast of the United States and Western Canada. The league began in 1985 as the Western Alliance Challenge Series. In 1986, it became the Western Soccer Alliance. In 1989, it existed for a single year as the Western Soccer League before merging with the American Soccer League to form the American Professional Soccer League in 1990. History Origins After the demise of the North American Soccer League in 1984 and the United Soccer League in 1985, four independent teams—F.C. Portland, F.C. Seattle, San Jose Earthquakes and Victoria Riptides—created the Western Alliance Challenge Series in the summer of 1985. Justin Fashanu
Justinus Soni "Justin" Fashanu ( ; 19 February 1961 – 2 May 1998) was an English footballer who played for a variety of clubs between 1978 and 1997. He was known by his early clubs to be gay, and came out publicly later in his career, becoming the first professional footballer to be openly gay. He was also one of the first footballers to command a £1 million transfer fee, with his transfer from Norwich City to Nottingham Forest in 1981, and had varying levels of success as a player afterwards, until he retired in 1997. After moving to the United States, in 1998 he was questioned by police when a seventeen-year-old boy accused him of sexual assault. He was charged, and a warrant for his arrest was issued in Howard County, Maryland, on 3 April 1998, but he had already left his flat. Bobby Sibbald
Robert Louis Sibbald (born 25 January 1948) is an English former footballer and manager who played for Leeds United, York City and Southport in the Football League. Career Born in Hebburn, County Durham, Sibbald progressed through the Leeds United youth system. He helped the youth team win the Jr European Cup before turning professional in January 1965. He was unable to affirm a regular place in the first team due to Paul Reaney being the first choice right back, and after making two league appearances, he joined York City in February 1969. He was captain for the 1969–70 season, but after losing his place in the team, joined Southport in July 1971 following an initial two-month trial. He made 45 appearances for Southport as they won the Fourth Division title in the 1972–73 season. Marine Cano
Marine Cano (born September 13, 1954) is an American collegiate soccer head coach and a retired professional goalkeeper. He played in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League, American Soccer League and Western Soccer Alliance. He is currently the head coach of the women's soccer team at CSU Dominguez Hills. Playing career Born in 1954, Cano grew up in South Bay, Los Angeles. He played in the inaugural AYSO season when he was 10-years old alongside his friend Sigi Schmid. Cano prepped at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, where he played basketball and was the team captain during his junior and senior years. The school did not have a soccer program at the time. In 1976, Cano signed his first professional contract with the Los Angeles Skyhawks of the American Soccer League at the age of 21.
