Los Angeles City Council District 12
Los Angeles City Council District 12 is one of the 15 districts of the Los Angeles City Council. It encompasses the northwestern and western section of the San Fernando Valley, in the city of Los Angeles. It is represented by John Lee (California politician), John Lee. On August 14, 2019 candidate John Lee claimed victory as the results showed him with a sizable lead over his opponent. Los Angeles City Council elections are nonpartisan. Lee is the only Independent on the 15-member council, his predecessors, Smith and Englander were Republicans. Downtown Los Angeles
Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) contains the central business district of Los Angeles. In addition, it contains a diverse residential area of some 85,000 people, and covers . A 2013 study found that the district is home to over 500,000 jobs. It is also part of Central Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles is divided into neighborhoods and districts, some overlapping. Douglas Eads Foster
Douglas Eads Foster (August 21, 1875 – July 22, 1962) was a dentist who served on the Los Angeles City Council between 1927 and 1929. Biography Foster was born August 21, 1875, in Warrensburg, Missouri, the son of James Madison Foster and Agnes Johnson Eads, his father dying when he was just three years old. He went to public schools in Warrensburg, and then to the University of Missouri in Columbia and Washington School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri. He took postgraduate work at the University of Southern California. In 1898 Foster volunteered for hospital service in the Spanish–American War and afterward helped in setting up the United States Army Dental Corps, being commissioned as one of the first dental surgeons in the U.S. Army in 1902. He served in that capacity until moving to Los Angeles the same year, where he practiced dentistry until he retired in 1924. After leaving the City Council in 1929 he worked in real estate. Venice Boulevard
Venice Boulevard is a major east–west thoroughfare in Los Angeles, running from the ocean in the Venice district, past the I-10 intersection, into downtown Los Angeles. It was originally known as West 16th Street under the Los Angeles numbered street system. Route description The western terminus of Venice Boulevard is Ocean Front Walk in Venice. Sunset Boulevard is a boulevard in the central and western part of Los Angeles, California, that stretches from the Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades east to Figueroa Street in Downtown Los Angeles. Griffith Park
Griffith Park is a large municipal park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains, in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The park includes popular attractions such as the Los Angeles Zoo, the Autry Museum of the American West, the Griffith Observatory, and the Hollywood Sign. Figueroa Street
Figueroa Street is a major north-south street in Los Angeles County, California, spanning from the Los Angeles neighborhood of Wilmington north to Eagle Rock. Alvarado Street
Alvarado Street is a north–south thoroughfare in Los Angeles, California in the United States. The street was named after California governor Juan Bautista Alvarado. Geography North of Glendale Boulevard, it starts off as a residential street. It becomes a major thoroughfare south of Glendale Boulevard. Directly south of Pico Boulevard and north of Venice Boulevard, Alvarado Street merges with Hoover Street. Alvarado Street is signed as State Route 2 from Glendale Boulevard to the Hollywood Freeway.
