The Los Angeles Angels are an American professional baseball team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Angels compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division. Since 1966, the team has played its home games at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. The franchise was founded in Los Angeles in 1961 by Gene Autry as one of MLB's first two expansion teams and the first to originate in California. Deriving its name from an earlier Los Angeles Angels franchise that played in the Pacific Coast League (PCL), the team was based in Los Angeles until moving to Anaheim in 1966. Due to the move, the franchise was known as the California Angels from 1965 to 1996 and the Anaheim Angels from 1997 to 2004. "Los Angeles" was added back to the name in 2005, but because of a lease agreement with Anaheim that required the city to also be in the name, the franchise was known as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim until 2015. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. From 1998 (when the NL West expanded to five teams) to 2012, the AL West was the only MLB division with four teams. The current champion of this division is the Houston Astros. In 2013, the Houston Astros went from the National League Central to the AL West. That move gives all six MLB divisions an equal five teams and both leagues an equal 15 teams each. The 2005 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim season was the franchise's 45th since its inception. The regular season ended with a record of 95–67, resulting in the Angels winning the American League West division title for the second consecutive season, their fifth in franchise history. American League
The American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the American League (AL), is one of two leagues that make up Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada. It developed from the Western League, a minor league based in the Great Lakes states, which eventually aspired to major league status. It is sometimes called the Junior Circuit because it claimed Major League status for the 1901 season, 25 years after the formation of the National League (the "Senior Circuit"). Perry Minasian
Perry Minasian (born April 1980) is an American baseball executive. He is the general manager of the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. He previously served as a scout and assistant general manager in the Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves organizations, respectively. Early life Minasian was raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex of Texas, where he became involved in baseball when he was eight years old as a batboy for the Texas Rangers. His father, Zack, also worked with the team as an assistant clubhouse manager. Minasian played baseball while attending Lamar High School in Arlington, and at the University of Texas at Arlington. Phil Nevin
Phillip Joseph Nevin (born January 19, 1971) is an American professional baseball player, coach, and manager. He is the manager for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played in MLB for 12 seasons, appearing in 1,217 games played between 1995 and 2006 for the Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers, Anaheim Angels, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins. He has previously served as a coach in MLB for the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees. John Carpino is an American baseball executive. He is president of the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball. He was named the eighth President in Angels history on Nov. 14, 2009 following six seasons as the Club's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. 2002 Anaheim Angels Season
The 2002 Anaheim Angels season was the franchise's 42nd, and it ended with the team's first American League pennant and World Series championship. The 2014 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim season was the franchise's 54th season and 49th in Anaheim (all of them at Angel Stadium). The Angels achieved a historically significant milestone during the course of the season by improving their all-time winning percentage to above the .500 mark.
