Lorraine Lambert
Lorraine Lambert (born 29 September 1972) is a British Paralympic shooter who was fifth in the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio. Lambert was chosen for the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo in August 2021. Life Lambert was born in 1972 and she is from Milton, a suburb of Portsmouth. She joined a youth organisation called The Nautical Training Corps and that was where she learned to shoot and began to shoot competitively. Lambert was working as a climbing instructor when she damaged her leg as the result of a fall while rock climbing in 1997. She had sixteen operations to try and fix the damage and reduce the pain in her leg. In 2005 she first tried to find a surgeon who was willing to amputate her leg so that she could improve her life. Her leg was removed in 2010. Lambert returned to competitive shooting when she took part in the "LimbPower Games" in 2010. Lesley Stewart (shooter)
Lesley Stewart (born c. 1979) is a British paralympic shooter who qualified for the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics. She was a police officer in the British Army who had a small accident. Unknown causes created years of pain in her leg. Life Stewart was born about 1979. She and her family are from Blairgowrie in Scotland. In 2000 she became a military police officer and she went to Iraq with the British Army. Her life changed dramatically in 2004 when she was stationed in Germany. She took a routine combat fitness test and although she felt something give in her back she completed the test. Two weeks later she was screaming in agony. Her left foot had been in pain two days after the test and it began to turn inward. No one at the time understood what was happening but for the next five years she was in pain. Issy Bailey
Issy Bailey (born 19 April 1994) is a British paralympic sports shooter. She competed in Rio at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and she competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. Life Bailey was born in 1994, and was brought up in Somerford Keynes, near Cirencester. She attended nearby Rendcomb College, where she first tried shooting. As her first sport was hockey, when she played lacrosse for her school she would usually move the ball on the ground rather than in the air. In 2013, when she was nineteen and attending the University of Exeter, she was seriously injured in a car accident. Bailey was taken to hospital and placed in a five-day coma while doctors treated her damaged spine, broken back, liver, and ribs. She lost the use of her legs and the full use of her left hand. While she was recovering at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, she was offered several sports, but had so many injuries to her body that shooting seemed to be the best option. Paralympic Shooting
Paralympic shooting, also known as shooting Para sport, is an adaptation of shooting sports for competitors with disabilities. Shooting is a test of accuracy and control, in which competitors use pistols or rifles to fire a series of shots at a stationary target. Each shot is worth a maximum score of 10.9 points. Athletes use .22 caliber rifles, pistols and .177 caliber air guns (compressed air or pneumatic). Paralympic shooting first appeared in the Summer Paralympics at the 1976 Summer Paralympics, 1976 Toronto Games. Competitions are open to all athletes with a physical disability. Veronika Vadovičová (born February 9, 1983) is a Slovakian Paralympic shooter. In 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China, she won gold medalint the 10 meter SH1. She competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, winning two gold medals and a silver medal. She competed at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, in Mixed R6 50 metre rifle prone SH1, winning a gold medal.
