Lorquí
Lorquí is a Spanish municipality in the autonomous community of Murcia. It has a population of 6,493 (2006) and an area of 15 km2 . Demographics The population of Lorquí has more than quadrupled since 1900 and continues to grow at a fast pace, growing 18% from 1991 to 2005. Sports The community enjoys soccer games at the Juan de la Cierva stadium, completed in 2002, which can seat 2,000 spectators. The stadium is home to the Club de Fútbol Atlético Ciudad. The 18th-century church of Santiago Apostol is also in the town. Santiago Apóstol, Lorquí
Santiago Apóstol is an 18th-century Roman Catholic church in the town of Lorquí, in the region of Murcia, Spain. History A church at the site was present by the 16th century. Work on the present church began in 1767 in a Baroque architecture, baroque-style, but economic difficulties, delayed completion till 1799, under the direction of Pedro Gilabert. Further refurbishment in a Neoclassical architecture, neoclassical-style and interior decoration continued until 1827. The belltower required repair in 1877 under the direction of Francisco Hernández Abellán. An earthquake in 1911 caused further damage. Juan de la Cierva y Codorníu, 1st Count of la Cierva (; 21 September 1895 in Murcia, Spain – 9 December 1936 in Croydon, United Kingdom) was a Spanish civil engineer, pilot and a self taught aeronautical engineer. His most famous accomplishment was the invention in 1920 of a rotorcraft called ''Autogiro'',''Aero Digest'', Feb 1939, page 27 a single-rotor type of aircraft that came to be called autogyro in the English language. In 1923, after four years of experimentation, De la Cierva developed the articulated rotor, which resulted in the world's first successful flight of a stable rotary-wing aircraft, with his C.4 prototype.
