Loring R-3
__NOTOC__ The Loring R-III or R-3 was a 1920s Spanish two-seat sesquiplane reconnaissance and light attack aircraft designed by engineer Eduardo Barrón and built by Dr. Jorge Loring's company — '' Talleres Loring''. Operational history In the mid 1920s, during General Primo de Rivera's dictatorship the R-III entered a contest along with the Potez 25 for the modernization of the Spanish Military Air Arm. Both planes had similar characteristics, but the Military Directory favoured the Loring R-III in order to promote local industries. The ''Aeronáutica Militar'' placed an order of 110 units, which put the Loring company at the head of the Spanish aeronautical industry of the time. A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. This is a list of aircraft used by the Spanish Republican Air Force during the Spanish Civil War. Introduction The Second Spanish Republic was proclaimed in 1931 and very soon the republican authorities set up to reform an antiquated military structure that was a financial burden for the Spanish state following the Great Depression. The Spanish Republican Air Force inherited a great number of airplanes from the monarchy, most of which had been used in the Spanish Campaigns in Northern Africa during general Primo de Rivera's dictatorship in the 1920s. Hostile to the republican reforms, and with many of its top echelon officers sympathizing with the far-right movements of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, part of the military elite staged a failed coup led by General Sanjurjo in 1934. __NOTOC__ The AME VI was a reconnaissance aircraft, produced in Spain in the mid 1920s.Enciclopedia de la Aviación Militar Española: Vol. 1, Quirón Ediciones Design and development It was designed by pilot and engineer Captain Manuel Bada Vasallo assisted by Arturo González Gil based on the Bristol F.2b aircraft used at the time by the Spanish Military Air Arm ''(Aeronáutica Militar Española)'', hence its designation AME. The two first prototypes were built in 1924 at the Aeronáutica Militar workshop in Cuatro Vientos. Conventional for its day, it was a biplane with staggered wings powered by a Hispano-Suiza 8Fb engine. The twin-leg Lamblin radiators were mounted on the undercarriage. Scarff Ring
The Scarff ring was a type of machine gun mounting developed during the First World War by Warrant Officer (Gunner) F. W. Scarff of the Admiralty Air Department for use on two-seater aircraft. The mount incorporated bungee cord suspension in elevation to compensate for the weight of the gun, and allowed an airgunner in an open cockpit to swivel and elevate his weapon (a Lewis machine gun) quickly, and easily fire in any direction. Later models permitted the fitting of two Lewis guns; while this doubled the firepower available, operation of the paired guns was more cumbersome, and required considerable strength from the gunner, especially at altitude, so that many gunners preferred the original single gun - and this became the postwar standard.
