Lorenzo Vigas
Lorenzo Vigas Castes (born 1967) is a Venezuelan director, screenwriter and film producer. Biography Education Born in Mérida, the son of the painter Oswaldo Vigas, Vigas graduated in molecular biology at the University of Tampa. In 1995 he studied cinema at New York University and started directing several experimental films. Career Back in Venezuela in 1998, he directed the RCTV documentary series ''Expedición'' and various documentaries and commercials. Located in Mexico, in 2003 he directed the short film ''Los elefantes nunca olvidan'' (''Elephants Never Forget''), produced by Guillermo Arriaga and presented at the Cannes Film Festival. Mérida, Mérida
Mérida, officially known as ''Santiago de los Caballeros de Mérida'', is the capital of the municipality of Libertador and the state of Mérida, and is one of the main cities of the Venezuelan Andes. It was founded in 1558 by Captain Juan Rodríguez Suárez, forming part of Nueva Granada, but later became part of the Captaincy General of Venezuela and played an active role in the War of Independence. The capital city's population is 204,879 inhabitants, and the metropolitan area, that includes the municipality of Libertador, reaches 345,489 people (Census 2001). 72nd Venice International Film Festival
The 72nd annual Venice International Film Festival took place from 2 to 12 September 2015. Alfonso Cuarón served as the President of the Jury for the main competition. A restored version of Federico Fellini's film '' Amarcord'' was shown at the festival. The Venezuelan film '' From Afar'' by Lorenzo Vigas won the Golden Lion award. ''Everest'' was selected as the festival's opening night film, while Guan Hu's drama film '' Mr. Six'' served as the closing night film. Actress and director Elisa Sednaoui hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the festival. The 73rd annual Venice International Film Festival was held from 31 August to 10 September 2016. English director Sam Mendes was the President of the Jury for the main competition. The opening night film was Damien Chazelle's musical ''La La Land''. The Golden Lion was awarded to Lav Diaz's film ''The Woman Who Left''. A new project named Venice Production Bridge was introduced in this edition of the festival. The new project is intended to attract industry professionals and focus on original projects for films, internet, series, virtual reality, and works in progress, in order to help their development and production.
