Lorenzo Porciatti
Lorenzo Porciatti (September 3, 1864 – March 17, 1928) was an Italian architect and architectural restorer, active mainly in his native Tuscany. Biography He was born in Cana, and died in Grosseto. He obtained a diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, then went to University of Rome to study mathematics, but left after a year. He became self-taught as an architect. He won an award for his design of the altar to Pope Leo XIII. He designed the tomb of Major Daniel Peploe at Weobley, Herefordshire, the Paoletti Perini chapel at the cemetery of Trespiano, and the Salle chapel at San Miniato al Monte, including its painting and sculpture. He presented a project, presented at the 1887 Exposition of Venice for the restoration and completion of the nave, as well of construction of a pulpit, of the Cathedral of Grosseto. Palazzo Aldobrandeschi is the seat of the provincial government of Grosseto, Italy, and it is located in Piazza Dante, the main square of the city. History It was built between 1900 and 1903 by architect Lorenzo Porciatti. It is a Gothic Revival building with the facade decorated by ogival mullioned windows and merlons. It houses the seat of the Province of Grosseto and was named after the ancient family Aldobrandeschi, since it was erroneously believed this was the location of the Aldobrandeschi's castle during the Middle Ages. Talamone
Talamone is a town in Tuscany, on the west coast of central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Orbetello, province of Grosseto, in the Tuscan Maremma. Talamone is easily reached from Via Aurelia, and is about from Grosseto and from Orbetello. Gothic Revival (also referred to as Victorian Gothic, neo-Gothic, or Gothick) is an architectural movement that began in the late 1740s in England.
