Lorenzo Natali Media Prize
The Lorenzo Natali Media Prize is a journalism prize awarded annually by the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) since 1992. The prize rewards outstanding reporting on themes including inequality, poverty eradication, sustainable development, peace, democracy and human rights. History Named after Lorenzo Natali, an Italian politician and former European Commissioner, the Lorenzo Natali Media Prize was established in 1992 to celebrate the work of journalists who report on stories about the social, political, economic and environmental dimensions of development around the world. It recognises journalism’s contribution to building more sustainable, fairer and more prosperous societies, in line with the European Union’s development policies. The Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG International Partnerships or DG INTPA) is the European Commission department responsible for international development policy. It operates under the authority of the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen. The European Commission disbursed 14.4 billion euros in official development assistance (ODA) in 2021 (0.21% of EU GNI). This was slightly above the 13.7 billion disbursed by the development ministry of Germany, the EU's biggest ODA donor. As a whole, the EU and its member states provided ODA of 70.2 billion euros (0.49% of EU GNI, below the 0.7% target). ''The Wire'' is an Indian nonprofit news and opinion website which publishes in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Urdu. It was founded in 2015 by Siddharth Varadarajan, Sidharth Bhatia, and M. K. Venu. Mauri König
Mauri König is a Brazilian journalist who has won several international prizes for his work on human rights abuses. He holds a master's degree in "literary reportage". Journalism He wrote a series of articles in 2000 and 2001 on Brazilian children being kidnapped for service in the military of Paraguay. Three men, allegedly from the Paraguayan police, assaulted him on 19 December 2000 after he photographed a police station in San Alberto. The attackers tortured him, whipping him with chains and strangling him, before leaving him for dead. However, König survived and continued to report on the story. Fariha Razzaq Haroon was a Pakistani politician and journalist who was a member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh from 2002 to 2007.
