Lorenzo Leonbruno
Lorenzo Leonbruno (10 March 1489 – 1537), also known as Lorenzo de Leombeni, was an Italian painter during the early Renaissance period. He was born in Mantua (Mantova), an Italian commune in Lombardy, Italy. Leonbruno is most well known for being commissioned by the court of Francesco Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua, and his wife Isabella d'Este. The patronage continued with their eldest son Federico II Gonzaga, who was the fifth Marquis of Mantua. Leonbruno was the court painter for the Gonzaga family from 1506–24. Leonbruno's most significant artistic commission was his decoration of the Camera Grande in the Gonzaga palace in Mantua, which was completed in 1523 for his patron Isabella d'Este. Aloisio Gonzaga (20 April 1494, Luzzara - 19 July 1549, Castel Goffredo) was an Italian condottiero. Early life Usually known as Aloisio, other sources call him Aluigi, Loysio, Luigi or Luigi Alessandro. He was the sixth son of another condottiero, Rodolfo Gonzaga and his wife Caterina Pico. Biography The lord of Castel Goffredo, Castiglione and Solferino, he was the founder of two cadet branches of the House of Gonzaga known as the "Castel Goffredo, Castiglione and Solferino Gonzagas" and "Castel Goffredo Gonzagas". - both branches went extinct in 1593. He backed the Holy Roman Emperor and its leader Charles V - Charles visited him at his residence in 1543. He was one of the most important figures in the history of Castel Goffredo. The Pinacoteca di Brera ("Brera Art Gallery") is the main public gallery for paintings in Milan, Italy. It contains one of the foremost collections of Italian paintings from the 13th to the 20th century, an outgrowth of the cultural program of the Brera Academy, which shares the site in the Palazzo Brera. The Camera degli Sposi ("bridal chamber"), sometimes known as the Camera picta ("painted chamber"), is a room frescoed with illusionistic paintings by Andrea Mantegna in the Ducal Palace, Mantua, Italy.. During the fifteenth century when the Camera degli Sposi was painted, Mantua was ruled by the Gonzaga, who maintained Mantua's political autonomy from its much stronger neighbors Milan and Venice by bidding their support out as a mercenary state. By commissioning Mantegna to paint the chamber, Ludovico III Gonzaga, the Marquis of Mantua, sought to give the Gonzaga rule more cultural credibility at a time when other Northern Italian courts such as the Ferrara were commissioning their own “painted chambers”.
