Lords Beach is a suburban beach along the River Derwent in Sandy Bay, Hobart, Tasmania. The north-east facing beach has views of Wrest Point Hotel Casino, Nutgrove Beach and the City of Clarence on the eastern shore. Containing several raised jetties and covered piers, Lords Beach neighbours Red Chapel Beach to the west and Dunkley’s Point on the east. History Named for James Lord, a convict landowner, who lends his name both to the beach and to Lord Street, Sandy Bay. Lords Beach was once a continuous single beach encompassing neighbouring Red Chapel Beach, Nutgrove Beach and Long Beach. However due to development and erosion of the smalls cliffs on its foreshore, it has become greatly separated from the other beaches. Sandy Bay, Tasmania
Sandy Bay is a suburb of the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, located immediately south of the central business district, and adjoining the suburb of Battery Point. Sandy Bay is bounded on the east by the Derwent River, and has several beaches along the shore, the main beaches with public access are Short Beach, Nutgrove Beach, Long Beach and Lords Beach. The suburb has many large homes, and is known as one of the city's prestigious areas. In the more southern areas of Sandy Bay, close to the water and also high on the slopes of Mt Nelson, are some of Tasmania's most expensive real estate. River Derwent (Tasmania)
The River Derwent is a river located in Tasmania, Australia. It is also known by the palawa kani name timtumili minanya. The river rises in the state's Central Highlands at Lake St Clair, and descends more than over a distance of more than , flowing through Hobart, the state's capital city, before emptying into Storm Bay and flowing into the Tasman Sea. The banks of the Derwent were once covered by forests and occupied by Aboriginal Tasmanians. European settlers farmed the area and during the 20th century many dams were built on its tributaries for the generation of hydro-electricity. Wrest Point Hotel Casino
The Wrest Point Hotel Casino is a casino in Tasmania. It was Australia's first legal casino, opening in the suburb of Sandy Bay in Hobart, on 10 February 1973. History Historically, Dunkley's Point was a camping ground held by the semi-nomadic Mouheneener people, who held a permanent settlement at nearby Long Beach called ''kreewer''. Following the British colonisation of Tasmania, Norfolk Islander Thomas Chaffey constructed his residence on the point between 1808 – 1813, which by the end of his life was known as Chaffey's Point. The ''Traveller's Wrest Hotel'', which is still standing today on Sandy Bay Road, was erected by his son William Chaffey in 1836. Clarence City Council (or City of Clarence) is a local government body in Tasmania, and one of the five municipalities that constitutes the Greater Hobart Area. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by living organisms. It is a form of chemiluminescence. The Channel Highway is a regional highway that travels south from Hobart To Huonville, Tasmania, Australia. The Channel Highway starts from the end of Sandy Bay Road and travels south toward Huonville via Taroona, Kingston, Huntingfield, Margate, Kettering, Woodbridge and Cygnet.
