Lord Hawke's XI Cricket Team In Australia And New Zealand In 1902–03
Lord Hawke selected a cricket team of ten amateurs and two professional players to tour Australia and New Zealand from November 1902 until March 1903. After an opening game in San Francisco, the tour began of eighteen matches - seven of them considered first-class - in New Zealand followed by three further first-class games in Australia. Hawke's team was the first to tour Australasia with New Zealand as the primary destination and, as was the norm at the time, was privately run and funded. The Australian leg of the tour was a "profit making venture", however the games in New Zealand were scheduled at the behest of the New Zealand Cricket Board in order to raise the profile of cricket in the country. Colonel H. H. Shri Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji II, Jam Saheb of Nawanagar, (10 September 1872 – 2 April 1933), often known as Ranji or K. S. Ranjitsinhji, was the ruler of the Indian princely state of Nawanagar from 1907 to 1933, as Maharaja Jam Saheb, and a noted Test cricketer who played for the English cricket team. He also played first-class cricket for Cambridge University, and county cricket for Sussex. Ranji has widely been regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of his era. Neville Cardus described him as "the Midsummer night's dream of cricket". Unorthodox in technique and with fast reactions, he brought a new style to batting and revolutionised the game. George Thompson (cricketer)
George Joseph Thompson (27 October 1877 – 3 March 1943) was the mainstay of the Northamptonshire county cricket eleven for a long period encompassing both its days as a minor county and its earliest years in the County Championship. A huge man, standing well over six feet tall and weighing more than 16 stone (102 kg), Thompson was an excellent all-rounder. Despite his huge frame, his batting relied chiefly on a very watchful eye that made him a very hard man to dismiss when pitches were hard and firm. Though at times he would hit very hard, he had very little backlift and could play only a restricted range of strokes, and his size made him rather slow of foot and hence seldom likely to make many runs on the numerous rain-affected pitches of his day. Auckland Cricket Team
The Auckland cricket team represent the Auckland region and are one of six New Zealand domestic first class cricket teams. Governed by the Auckland Cricket Association they are the most successful side having won 28 Plunket Shield titles, ten wins in The Ford Trophy and the Super Smash four times. The side currently play their home games at Eden Park Outer Oval. The limited overs side, known as the Auckland Aces, have a predominantly light blue kit with a navy and white trim. Their One Day Championship shirt sponsors are Ford whilst their major T20 sponsor is Mondiale. John Nathaniel Williams (27 January 1878 – 25 April 1915) was an English cricketer. He played for Hawke's Bay in 1903 and Gloucestershire in 1908. The son of Sir Robert Williams, Williams was educated at Eton and Oxford University. He went to New Zealand, where he worked in the gold mining industry at Waihi. Sam Hargreave (22 September 1875 – 1 January 1929) was the most successful bowler for Warwickshire until the success of Foster and Field in winning the 1911 County Championship. Arthur Whatman
Arthur Dunbar Whatman (13 February 1873 – 28 May 1965) was an English cricketer of the early twentieth century who played as a wicketkeeper for Suffolk County Cricket Club, a non-first-class team that is one of the minor counties of English cricket. Personal life He was born in Westcott, Surrey in 1873, the only son of George Dunbar and his wife Frances Fuller, daughter of George Arthur Fuller. He was educated at Windlesham House School, Brighton (1883-87), Eton College, and Trinity Hall, Cambridge where he matriculated in 1892. Whatman served for a year as a civilian aide-de-camp to General Clements in the Second Boer War, from December 1899. Afterwards he was an underwriter at Lloyd's of London and saw additional service in World War I as a captain in both the Suffolk Regiment and The Buffs.
