Lord-in-waiting
Lords-in-waiting (male) or baronesses-in-waiting (female) are peers who hold office in the Royal Household of the sovereign of the United Kingdom. In the official Court Circular they are styled "Lord in Waiting" or "Baroness in Waiting" (without hyphenation). There are two kinds of lord-in-waiting: political appointees by the government of the day who serve as junior government whips in the House of Lords (the senior whips have the positions of Captain of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms and Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard); and non-political appointments by the monarch (who, if they have a seat in the House of Lords, sit as crossbenchers). Alan Brooke, 3rd Viscount Brookeborough
Alan Henry Brooke, 3rd Viscount Brookeborough, (born 30 June 1952), is a Northern Irish peer and landowner. He is one of the 92 hereditary peers who remain in the House of Lords; he sits as a crossbencher. He is the current Lord Lieutenant of Fermanagh. Early life and career Lord Brookeborough was educated at Harrow School, Millfield and at the Royal Agricultural College (now Royal Agricultural University), Cirencester. He joined the British Army in 1971, being commissioned into the 17th/21st Lancers. In 1977 he transferred to the Ulster Defence Regiment (UDR), which was to become the Royal Irish Regiment in 1992. Jasset Ormsby-Gore, 7th Baron Harlech
Jasset David Cody Ormsby-Gore, 7th Baron Harlech (born 1 July 1986), is a British hereditary peer and Conservative member of the House of Lords. He has been serving as a Lord in Waiting since September 2022. Personal life Harlech is a great-great-great-grandson of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, who served as British prime minister. His father was Francis Ormsby-Gore, 6th Baron Harlech, a Conservative peer, and his mother was Amanda Ormsby-Gore (née Grieve), a creative consultant and writer. Due to his father's mental health issues, he describes his mother raising him and his sister "essentially as a single parent". Henry Byron Davies, Baron Davies of Gower (born 4 September 1952) is a Conservative Party politician and life peer. He has been serving as a Lord in Waiting since September 2022. Early life and career Byron Davies was born in Port Eynon, Gower and educated at Gowerton Boys’ Grammar School. He was a police officer in London before his selection as a Welsh Conservative Assembly candidate. While in the police he attained senior rank as a detective in the Metropolitan Police Service. Political career On 7 May 2015, he was elected the Member of Parliament for Gower at the 2015 general election.
