Longtan District () is a rural District (Taiwan), district in southern Taoyuan City, Taiwan. Longtan is home to the headquarters of the Republic of China Army. The township is known for the Buddhist temple in the center of Longtan Lake and the large Bainien community project. The area is surrounded by high-tech industries and mountains. Longtan is home to a number of military bases, and a few research installations. Districts are administrative subdivisions of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan)'s special municipality (Taiwan), special municipalities of the second level and provincial city (Taiwan), provincial cities of the third level formerly under its Provinces of China, provinces. You Rizheng
You Jih-cheng (15 May 1949 – 25 May 2002) was a Taiwanese politician who served as the mayor of Longtan District in Taoyuan City and was elected as the second legislator in Taoyuan County on behalf of the Kuomintang party. He was killed in the crash of China Airlines Flight 611 on 25 May 2002. The Boeing 747 operating the flight broke apart in mid-air near Magong, Penghu. All 225 people on board including Jih-cheng were killed and he was among the 50 bodies that have never been found or identified. Esther Huang (born 27 February 1989), formerly known as Albee Huang, is a Taiwanese actress and singer. She is a former member of the Taiwanese girl band Hey Girl. She is sometimes known as Xiao Xun in the media along with other pseudonyms. Career Huang is in a girl group originally known as Hei Se Hui Mei Mei which underwent a name change to Hey Girl. Shihmen Dam
Shihmen Dam (; also spelled Shimen or Shihman) is a major rock fill dam across the Dahan River in northern Taoyuan City. It forms the Shihmen Reservoir (), Taiwan's third largest reservoir or artificial lake. It provides irrigation in Taoyuan, flood control for the Taipei Basin, and hydroelectricity and domestic water supply for more than three million people in northern Taiwan. Completed in 1964 after nine years of construction, Shihmen was Taiwan's first multi-purpose water project and a major step towards the island's economic independence after World War II. Year-round water releases from the dam enabled additional rice harvests and doubled Taoyuan's annual agricultural output, while the reservoir became a major tourist destination due to its scenic beauty and plentiful fisheries.
