Longa (Middle Eastern Music)
A ''longa'' ( ar, لونجا) is a Turkish / Eastern European dance, that was later introduced into Arabic music and is often performed at the end of a ''muwashshah''. It generally uses an '' iqa''' equivalent to 2/4, with several sections called ''khanat'' (singular ''khana''), each followed by a ''taslim'' (refrain). The last ''khana'' is generally in 3/4. A common form of ''longa'' is ''longa Riad in Nahawand scale'' (لونجا نهاوند) which is composed by the Egyptian composer Riad Al Sunbati in the ''maqam Nahawand''. Muwashshah
''Muwashshah'' ( ar, موشح '  literally means "girdled" in Classical Arabic; plural ' or ' ) is the name for both an Arabic poetic form and a secular musical genre. The poetic form consists of a multi-lined strophic verse poem written in classical Arabic, usually consisting of five stanzas, alternating with a refrain with a running rhyme. It was customary to open with one or two lines which matched the second part of the poem in rhyme and meter; in North Africa poets ignore the strict rules of Arabic meter while the poets in the East follow them. The musical genre of the same name uses ''muwaššaḥ'' texts as lyrics, still in classical Arabic. Rhythms in Arabic music are rich and very diverse, as they cover a huge region and peoples from Northern Africa to Western Asia. Rhymes are mainly analysed by means of rhythmic units called ''awzan'' and ''iqa'at''. Riad Al Sunbati
Riad Mohamed El Sunbati ( arz, رياض محمد السنباطي), also written as Riad Sonbati or Riadh Sonbati (30 November 1906 – 10 September 1981) was a 20th-century Egyptian composer and musician who was considered an icon of Egyptian Music. The number of his lyric works is 539 works in Egyptian Opera, operetta, cinematic and religious song, poem, Taqtouqa and Mawalia. The number of song poets who he composed for is more than 120 poets. Arabic maqam ( ar, مقام, maqām, literally "rank"; ') is the system of melodic modes used in traditional Arabic music, which is mainly melodic. The word ''maqam'' in Arabic means place, location or position. The Arabic ''maqam'' is a melody type.
