The Long Beach State Beach women's basketball team represents California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach, California. The school's team currently competes in the Big West Conference. History Since beginning in 1962, the 49ers have an all-time record (as of the end of the 2015–16 season) of 898–521. They played in the Southern California Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from 1962 to 1965, the Extramural Coordinating Council of Southern California Colleges from 1965 to 1971, and the SCWIAC from 1971 to 1976 before joining the Western Collegiate Athletic Association in 1976, playing until 1985. They played in the AIAW women's basketball tournament (the predecessor to the NCAA Tournament) in 1972, 1973, 1976, 1979, 1980, and 1981. Big West Conference
The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The conference stopped sponsoring college football after the 2000 season. Among the conference's 11 member institutions, 10 are located in California (with 9 located in Southern California alone) and one is located in Hawaii. All of the schools are public universities, with the California schools evenly split between the California State University and the University of California systems. 1989 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament
The 1989 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 15 and ended on April 2. The tournament expanded from 40 to 48 teams. The Final Four consisted of Auburn, Louisiana Tech, Tennessee, and Maryland, with Tennessee winning its second title with a 76-60 victory over Auburn. Kansas State Wildcats Women's Basketball
The Kansas State Wildcats women's basketball program is the intercollegiate basketball program of the Kansas State Wildcats. The program is classified in the NCAA Division I, and the team competes in the Big 12 Conference. The team has been invited to 22 NCAA and AIAW tournaments (second-most among Big 12 teams), and was crowned champion of the 2006 Women's National Invitation Tournament. The Mercer Bears women's basketball team represents Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Southern Conference. The 1973 AIAW women's basketball tournament was held on March 22–25, 1973. The host site was Queens College in Flushing, New York. Sixteen teams participated, and Immaculata University was crowned national champion at the conclusion of the tournament, for the second straight year. Immaculata finished the season undefeated (20–0), becoming the first undefeated national champion in women's college basketball. The Southern Connecticut Owls (also Southern Connecticut State Owls and SCSU Owls) are the athletic teams that represent Southern Connecticut State University, located in New Haven, Connecticut, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The UT Martin Skyhawks women's basketball team is the team that represents the University of Tennessee at Martin in Martin, Tennessee, United States. AIAW National Division I Basketball Tournament
The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women's athletics in the United States and to administer national championships (see AIAW Champions). 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament was played from Friday, March 17 to Sunday, April 2, 2017, with the Final Four played at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on March 31 and April 2. This was the first time that the women's Final Four was played in Dallas and the first time since 2002 that the Final Four games were played on Friday and Sunday, rather than Sunday and Tuesday.
