Long Beach Breakers
The Long Beach Breakers were a minor league baseball team that played at Blair Field in Long Beach, California. They played in the independent Western Baseball League since 1978 and were not associated with any Major League Baseball team. The Breakers were founded in 2001 and owned by Jerry Schoenfeld a California Businessman, The Breakers won a league championship in their 2001 inaugural season. They played for two seasons and were coached by Dodger Catcher Steve Yeager. The talented staff of coaches consisted of (Bench and Hitting Coach) Joe Magno former associate scout for the Cincinnati Reds and college baseball coach along with (pitching coaches) John Curtis California Angels and George Throop Kansas City Royals. Western Baseball League
The Western Baseball League was an independent baseball league based in the Western United States and Western Canada. Its member teams were not associated with any Major League Baseball teams. It operated from 1995 to 2002. The league was founded in 1994 by Portland, Oregon, businessman Bruce L. Engel. It began play in 1995, with the following teams: Northern Division: * Bend Bandits * Grays Harbor Gulls * Surrey Glaciers *Tri-City Posse Southern Division: * Long Beach Barracuda * Palm Springs Suns * Salinas Peppers *Sonoma County Crushers Long Beach won the inaugural league championship, defeating Tri-City, 3 games to 1. John Curtis (baseball)
John Duffield Curtis (born March 9, 1948), is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Twice a first-round draft pick, Curtis played baseball at Clemson University and then pitched for several Major League Baseball (MLB) teams between 1970 and 1984. He retired with an 89–97 win–loss record and a 3.96 earned run average (ERA). Early life Curtis attended Smithtown High School in Smithtown, New York. He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 1966 Major League Baseball draft but did not sign, choosing instead to attend Clemson University. In 1967, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Steve Yeager
Stephen Wayne Yeager (born November 24, 1948) is an American former professional baseball catcher. Yeager spent 14 of the 15 seasons of his Major League Baseball career, from 1972 through 1985, with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His last year, 1986, he played for the Seattle Mariners. From 2012 to 2018, Yeager was the catching coach for the Dodgers. He was co-MVP of the 1981 World Series. Early and personal life Yeager was born in Huntington, West Virginia. Long Beach Armada
The Long Beach Armada were an independent professional baseball team based in Long Beach, California, in the United States. The Armada was a member of the North Division of the now-defunct Golden Baseball League (GBL), which was not affiliated with either Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball. The Armada played its home games at Blair Field. The Armada fielded a team for the Arizona Summer League in 2010 months after suspending GBL operations, and then a team in the Arizona Winter League in 2011.
