"Lonely This Christmas" is a Christmas song by the English glam rock band Mud, that topped the UK Singles Chart in 1974, selling over 750,000 copies and reaching Christmas number one. Song Written and produced by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, "Lonely This Christmas" was Mud's second number one single in the UK, spending four weeks at the top in December 1974 and January 1975. It was the third number one single that year for the ChinniChap writing and production team, and was performed in the style of Elvis Presley's slower songs from his later career. Mud (band)
Mud are an English glam rock band, formed in February 1966. Their earlier success came in a pop and then glam rock style, while later hits were influenced by 1950s rock and roll, and they are best remembered for their hit singles "Dyna-mite" , "Tiger Feet", which was the UK's best-selling single of 1974, and "Lonely This Christmas" which reached Christmas number 1 in December 1974. Rob Davis (musician)
Robert Berkeley Davis (born 1 October 1947) is an English guitarist and songwriter. Early career Davis received his first guitar when he was 11 years old and music became a central part of his life. In 1962, at the age of 15, he and Dave Mounts formed a band called The Apaches, with a Shadows sound. He and Mounts continued to work together in several bands, including the Barracudas and in 1964, formed the Remainder. He joined the Mourners who were looking for a lead guitarist and in 1966, changed their name to Mud. Mud Davis was a founding member of the successful late 1960s and 1970s glam rock band Mud. In addition to playing lead guitar, he wrote a number of the band’s songs. He wrote the band’s first single, “Flower Power” which was released in the October 1967 but did not garner much success.
