London Youth Games Hall Of Fame
The Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Hall of Fame was created in 2009 to recognise former London Youth Games competitors who have gone on to world class sporting careers and to celebrate the role the Games have had in their development. Since its launch, eighteen athletes have been inducted at the annual Hall of Fame and Awards Evening, which also recognises the groups and individuals who make a huge contribution to the success of each year. To date, the London Youth Games Hall of Fame inductees have won 28 Olympic or Paralympic medals and 57 World Championship medals, and amassed over 1000 international appearances for their country. The Hall of Fame athletes cover ten sports and thirteen London boroughs. 2009 The first group were inducted into the Hall of Fame on Tuesday 15 September 2009. Bradley Wiggins
Sir Bradley Marc Wiggins, CBE (born 28 April 1980) is a British former professional road and track racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2001 and 2016. He began his cycling career on the track, but later made the transition to road cycling. He won world titles in four disciplines (Madison, individual pursuit, team pursuit and road time trial), and Olympic gold in three (individual pursuit, team pursuit and road time trial). He is the only rider to have won both World and Olympic championships on both the track and the road as well as winning the Tour de France. John Regis (athlete)
John Paul Lyndon Regis, MBE (born 13 October 1966) is an English former sprinter. During his career, he won gold medals in the 200 metres at the 1989 World Indoor Championships and the 1990 European Championships, and a silver medal in the distance at the 1993 World Championships. He was a member of the British teams which won the gold medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay at the 1991 World Championships, and the silver medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1988 Olympic Games. Regis is still the British 200 metres record-holder, which he set in 1994. Career Regis's most significant successes in individual events came when competing in the 200 metres. Margaret Alphonsi
Margaret Alphonsi (born 20 December 1983) is an English former rugby union player who played as a flanker for Saracens W.R.F.C. and England before retiring in 2014. She was Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year in 2010, and was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in November 2016 during the opening ceremonies for the Hall's first physical location in Rugby, Warwickshire. Alphonsi was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to rugby. Life Alphonsi was born in Lewisham, south London to single-parent family, and was born with club foot, which she had to overcome in order to play rugby. Richard Hounslow
Richard John Hounslow (born 19 December 1981) is a British slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1999 until his retirement in 2016. He started out as a specialist in the kayak (K1) category, but in 2009 he also started competing in canoe doubles (C2) alongside David Florence. In his last season (2016) he concentrated on the C2 class exclusively. Personal and early life Hounslow was born in the London Borough of Harrow, which he represented in the London Youth Games. Gemma Gibbons
Gemma Jeanette Gibbons (born 6 January 1987) is a British judoka. Competing in the women's −70 kg category, she has represented England and Great Britain at Junior, U-23, 'B' and Senior level. Early and personal life Born in Charlton, London, Gibbons began practising Judo at six years of age with the Metro Judo Club in Blackheath, London. Naomi Joy Riches MBE (born on 15 June 1983) is a British adaptive rower who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Riches was born on 15 June 1983 in Hammersmith, London, England. She attended Cannon Lane school as a child. Joanna Katie Rowsell MBE (born 5 December 1988) is a retired English cyclist on the Great Britain Cycling Team who competed on track and road. Her greatest successes were the gold medals won in the women's team pursuit at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics as well as five World Championship titles, four in the team pursuit (2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014) plus one in the individual pursuit at the 2014 World Championships. Rachel Aba Yankey, OBE (born 1 November 1979) is an English former footballer who played for the England national team. She played as a left winger or forward. She left Arsenal after 13 years in December 2016 at the end of her contract. She is ranked among the Arsenal Ladies Legends. Paul Johnson (born 18 July 1972) is a former professional squash player from England. Squash career Paul Johnson played for Greenwich in the London Youth Games when growing up and was inducted into the London Youth Games Hall of Fame in 2011. Johnson reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 4 in 1999. At the 1998 Commonwealth Games, he won a gold medal for England in Kuala Lumpur, in the men's doubles (partnering Mark Chaloner), and a bronze medal in the men's singles. Dalton Grant
Dalton Grant (born 8 April 1966) is a former high jumper. Athletics career Grant won a total number of four national titles for Great Britain (AAA Championships) in the men's high jump event. His personal best jump is 2.36 metres, achieved at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. He has a personal indoor best of 2.37 metres. Grant appeared at five consecutive Commonwealth Games. He represented England in the high jump, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.
