London International Festival Of Theatre
The London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT) is a biennial festival of theatre, performance and cultural events. The organisation also supports year-round activity in London. The organisation was founded by Rose Fenton and Lucy Neal, with the first festival in 1981 hoping to ‘challenge British theatre and open a window on the world’ . Lyn Gardner in ''The Guardian'' wrote of LIFT in 2014, "Probably no theatre organisation in the UK has done more to break down the distinctions between artforms than LIFT, which over the last 30 years has not only offered us a first glimpse of work by world-class theatre makers, but also offered space for first-hand theatrical dispatches from artists living with conflict and under oppression who find space denied them in their own country." The Wooster Group
The Wooster Group is a New York City-based experimental theater company known for creating numerous original dramatic works. Neil Bartlett (playwright)
Neil Vivian Bartlett, OBE, (born 1958) is a British director, performer, translator and writer. He was one of the founding members of Gloria, a production company established in 1988 to produce his work along with that of Nicolas Bloomfield, Leah Hausman and Simon Mellor.From the programme to the 1993 Traverse Theatre production of ''Night After Night''. Bruno Beltrão
Bruno Beltrão (born 19 September 1979 in Niteroi) is a Brazilian choreographer who has worked since 1996 with his Grupo de Rua (GRN). He uses urban dance styles in the context of conceptual theatre and has mixed various influences, including hip hop, to form abstract choreographic landscapes. Since childhood, Beltrão wanted to direct films and was fascinated by cinematographic and computer-generated three-dimensional universes. However, at the age of 13 years, he began to dance in matinees in his hometown, where he started his unexpected relationship with hip hop. In 1994 received his first dance lesson from the Israeli teacher Yoram Szabo. A year later, his studies was interrupted and he begins to teach street dance in academies of the city. Hofesh Shechter
Hofesh Shechter (born 3 May 1975) is an Israeli choreographer, dancer and composer based in London. He is best known for being the founder and artistic director of the Hofesh Shechter Company. Shechter was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Choreography in 2016 for his work on Bartlett Sher's revival of '' Fiddler on the Roof''. Since 2016, he has been named as one of The Stage's 100 most influential people in theatre. Early life Hofesh Shechter was born in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1975. At 6, Shechter began to study piano, later developing an interest in folk dance aged 12. At 15, he successfully auditioned for the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance as a pianist, but switched to dance upon his arrival, taking formal classes in ballet and modern dance. Belarus Free Theatre
Belarus Free Theatre is a Belarusian underground theatre group. Under the current political system the Belarus Free Theatre has no official registration, no premises, nor any other facilities. Rehearsals and performances (always free of charge for the public) are normally held secretly in small private apartments, which, due to security and the risk of persecution, must constantly be changed. On several occasions, performances were given in street cafes and in the countryside, in the woods. Staff members have been repeatedly harassed by the authorities.
